Members hoover25 Posted April 24, 2006 Members Posted April 24, 2006 I was not sure why I decided to go to powersite, but I am not sure why I do alot of things. I fished for a few hours with rapalas and swimming minnows. I caught one nice white, but that was it. The two other guys that I was with didn't catch anything. There may be some fish up there, but with the crowds its was hard to find a quite piece of water to cast at......I won't be going there again on the weekend. The fish I did catch was a female as was full of eggs and was obviously not spawning yet......so where are the other bazillion whites I wonder??? Anyone else have luck with the whites yet??? Lets pray for rain.

Seriously though, the whites have been weird this year, but atleast they're back (somewhat)... I've never caught them very good on low-water years like this, but some folks prefer it. I thought we'd kill 'em by using our kayak and trolling for them in areas where boats can't reach, but all I've gotten is exercise! Cenosillicaphobiac

I've caught 4 white bass in Missouri this year, my all time lowest mark possibly. But I may have to go out this evening and throw some small sluggos and after dark throw some purple swimming minnows. Any suggestions where? Was thinking about the park side bank across from the mouth of Swan.
riverrat Posted April 25, 2006 Posted April 25, 2006 Has anyone fished Beaver Creek lately? I've seen whites spawn in 65-70 degree water. The key is water flow. There has to be more water flow in beaver than Swan and I'm assuming that Powersite is not running water. This year I've fished two creeks that normally have white bass runs, same water temp. One creek had good water flow one had almost none. Guess which one was full of whites? If it was me I would find the first shoal on Beaver and fish the hole above it or below it.
Wayne SW/MO Posted April 25, 2006 Posted April 25, 2006 I'm sure the flow has a big effect on the Whites because they broadcast their eggs and they need current to scatter and aerate them I'm told. I suppose they know how much. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
