Hey, new here and kinda new to the lake. I was on the lake yesterday and the last few weekends. A couple weeks ago I was fishing a point and a couple guys came in on the point across from me and I seen they were throwing a buzzbait. This was about noon, sun and no clouds, a little wind. They went on down the cove a little then came over to my side and started my way. I was done (no fish) so I let them have it and I went across to the point they just fished and first cast caught a keeper in about 20ft of water, then a dink, and then another keeper on a 1/2 oz jig. Yesterday same thing but it was on down a bank, I was on fishing a jig again, and a boat came up on me ( they had to be in a tournament, they had on the same color jackets..I don't know) and they were working fast so I just pulled off and let them by and both of them were throwing a white looking buzzbait. I came up on a big log on the bank flipped my jig in there and bang a 4 1/2 LM that they just passed?? Wait there's more, went on down the bank and after they fished the point they took off and before I could get to it, another boat pulled in on it...yeah throwing a white color buzzbait. I pulled out and watched for a bit and they just ran down the bank a little way came up on that log pulled up and took off, didn't even fish it ?? Am I missing something here or what?? Are the bigger fish hitting the buzzbait? Are they just looking for one big bite? I not being mean here..I just don't understand?? I've never seen a buzzbait used all day like that..

Are you seeing them fishing mainly on windblown points? If that is the case they are fishing for whitebass. In the fall the whitebass will stack up on the windy points and banks in 1-2 feet of water and become very aggressive. Their favorite food is shad so predominant colors to fish with are white, red, silver, grey, blue. They can provide a lot of topwater action when they are in the mood. The buzzbait allows you to cover a lot of water searching for an aggressive school of whites. Thats my guess. Sometimes they feed in such a frenzy that the activity will attract more than one boat. I run into a couple of boats on Truman that dont have the same ethic that I do to give a fellow fisherman his room to fish. I think it is also just a sign of the times (and not one I am particularly fond of). I usually just pull up the trolling motor and find another point.

Im not a Cardinals fan, but I am a Cardinal. If you know me you know what that means.

Some tournament fishermen (not necessarily the best ones, mind you) think that to catch fish fast, you have to fish fast. You can cover a ton of water in a short period of time with a buzz bait.

And if the bite is tough they'll work for the big fish, hoping a couple will place.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

Several of the tournament fishermen that I saw today were throwing white buzzbaits. I didn't even tie one on. My fish were about 15' deep.

It would make sense for tournament fishermen to follow a similar pattern, I have caught some of my biggest LM in the fall while whitebass fishing.
