Brian Sloss Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 In case anyone was thinking about floating or fishing here this weekend, go ahead and stop thinking about it. We are blown out and the river is still rising. Watch football and baseball playoffs instead. It is not worth looking into until possibly the middle of next week or later. The river had been fishing well before all this rain though. www.elevenpointflyfishing.com www.elevenpointcottages.com (417)270-2497
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted October 9, 2009 Root Admin Posted October 9, 2009 Next weekend will be interesting... still planning on it.
Mark Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 Brian, The river gauge at Bardley shows about 4.5 ft and falling this Monday morning. Would you say at least another 1'-1.5' drop before it will be fishable again? We hate to waste a trip this Fri/Sat if the fishing isn't good. Could you keep us informed? As I'm sure you would anyway with the Fly Fishers Fling this weekend. Any rain Wed./Thurs like predicted will just about make next weekend a wash I would think. Will you go ahead with your plans regardless? Mark
Brian Sloss Posted October 12, 2009 Author Posted October 12, 2009 It would be better for fishing to be at least down to 1000 cfs or less. If it gets down to 7-800 cfs, it should be quite good, though a little limited on wading. We will go ahead if we can and are planning to do so right now. A big rain would be bad and I will be posting updates if things turn for the worse. www.elevenpointflyfishing.com www.elevenpointcottages.com (417)270-2497
Nortrad Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 Thanks Brian, my fishing buddy and our families were thinking about coming to Greer and would also like updates on the river conditions. Camping possibly, upper 30's at night, bring the warm sleeping bags...
Brian Sloss Posted October 13, 2009 Author Posted October 13, 2009 It all depends on how much rain we get this week. It is raining now, not hard, but steady. No telling yet what it will do to the river. I'll post when I know. www.elevenpointflyfishing.com www.elevenpointcottages.com (417)270-2497
Members jarchitect Posted October 13, 2009 Members Posted October 13, 2009 Brian, Stan, Dave, Dan and I (Jim Riddle) are planning on coming down for the Flingers. Am I reading that fishing is best if the river si below 800 CFM? Is it fishable at 1000? Can you keep posting the conditions? What are other options to fish if we do not want to waste a fishing pass?
Mark Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 Wondering the same thing Brian. It has been holding steady at 1020 cfs all day today. Is that fishable? For some perspective, about how far up the boat ramp at Whitten or Turner South are we talking about? At Labor Day, the water was not even up to the ramp at Turner South.
Brian Sloss Posted October 13, 2009 Author Posted October 13, 2009 1000 and higher is tougher and wading is difficult. Like I said, I can't know much about this weekends conditions until I see how much rain we get over the next couple of days. Fishing was pretty good for a couple of guys floating Cane Bluff to Greer yesterday, Though there is a tree down on that route now that caused a difficult portage. They did it ok though. As for perspective, the cfs was about 475 over labor day. www.elevenpointflyfishing.com www.elevenpointcottages.com (417)270-2497
superfly Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 I am not an expert but I bet the river will be fishable on Saturday. Just a guess 900cfs. The big rain is South. Someone should catch a big fish this weekend. Just my 2 cents. Superfly
