Chief Grey Bear Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 I thought I would show you just what I was speaking of with the pipe cleaners. I must apologize for the crappy photos. Cut off about 1" or 1 1/2" piece. Wrap that piece around the shank of the hook. You can also just wrap the whole length of cleaner around the hook and cut off the excess. You can do both front and back hooks. Let your imagination be your guide. The only type plugs I wouldn't do are the smaller ones. Especially like a Tiny Torpedo. They can't hold up the extra weight when they draw in and hold water. FishinCricket Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 Hey, I don't see any crappie photos! Interesting , Chief.. What's the goal, what benefit does it give to the lure? More flash or something? Wouldn't this mid effect the swim or lope of the lure? cricket.c21.com
Ämp Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 I do this with some of my lures, usually a small flash of red in the front and white in the back... .

Kinda like using a trailer on a spinnerbait. Buckshotdad1960 Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 What months of the year do you do this? And do you think the pipe cleaner would be able to hold scent if you put some on. Tell a thousand funny jokes and no one remembers! Tell one bad one and no one forgets!
brownieman Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 The single best thing I've ever done to a plug. I don't sight fish but do like to see my plug, fast water, murkey water...Sometimes a fish will roll on it deep and if you can't see exactly where your plug is you won't see him cause chances are, if you make the same cast you'll nail em. I mask off and paint a chart. stripe right down the middle of the back the length of the whole plug...just a narrow line down the back and it's amazing how much better you can keep an eye on it. This has definately helped me more than anytning else I can think of. later on bm My friends say I'm a douche bag ?? Avatar...mister brownie bm <><

I'm not sure scent on a crankbait would make any difference. It just moves too fast for a fish to stop and smell it. Possibly on a jerkbait you're fishing super-slow, but I doubt it. Of course I don't use scent on anything, so what do I know?
Buckshotdad1960 Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 I know there are times when scent added to crappie jig can help to produce fish but I just wonder if it would help to motivate fish that follow your crank bait but never bite. It might be worth experimenting with? Tell a thousand funny jokes and no one remembers! Tell one bad one and no one forgets!
Chief Grey Bear Posted October 21, 2009 Author Posted October 21, 2009 Sure it will work. Now the sparkly kind won't hold sent, but the other type will. It can also help when you experience one that follows without striking. The sent can change his mind and add more fish to your day. It can also help when fish are not feeding as aggressively. The sent trail that follows can be just what you need to trigger that strike. It certainly won't hurt your chances. Buckshotdad1960 Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 Fantastic! That’s what I thought. I’m just glad to hear someone else say it because I’m gonna try it! Tell a thousand funny jokes and no one remembers! Tell one bad one and no one forgets!
