A buddy and I may be floating the blue ribbon section on Saturday. I'm still not familiar with this river so I'm looking for some pointers. I'm planning on throwing the generic stuff like buggers, stones, princes, etc.... I'm still addicted to the streamers so what patterns are generally the most effective? I'm thinking zoo cougars, sculpins, and mohair leeches mostly becuase that's what my streamer box is down to at the moment. If anybody has any general suggestions, I'm all ears.

Thanks.

Hey Randall,

First of all I'll be in the Blue Ribbon section Saturday as well....if you see a white and blue drift boat be sure to say hi!

You really can't go wrong with streamers if conditions are right. I have found that if they are chasing they are chasing and you can throw a ton of different flies. Having said that though you could try drifting some streamers to get a little different action.

Typically, I'll throw big streamers if I am going to take the streamer fishing seriously. Sex Dungeons, TnA Leeches, etc.

Good luck and have fun!

I caught fish on olive pine squirrels. Seeing what's in the river - seeing what I saw in the net the other day, I'd throw nothing but crawfish and stone nymph patterns.

I think they catch bigger trout.

Get'em deep in the deeper holes.

And I'd throw jigs.

Randall,

I tend to stick with what has consistantly worked for a long time. I can't say that I haven't caught fish on Pine Squirrel streamers....but I could probably go to Taney and catch fish on a Rubber-Legs--but probably not consistantly.

Since your question was geared more toward what kind of streamer would we throw that is how I directed my answer. But if you need a full run-down of flies let me know and I'll throw my a list of what my fly box consists of.....again. :)

By the way, the mohairs you spoke of.....probably all you need a lot of the time.

Thanks for the input. I'll be sure to holler if I see you. I really want to streamer fish so I'll probably stick primarily with that.

I did really well on rubber legs in June so I'll probably keep that as my lead fly on the nymph rod and drop like princes or san juans off of it. I have some crawfish I may toss too.

I have one more question I forgot to ask earlier: what is the upstream-most place I can put in and leave a vehicle and how do I get there? I am familiar with most of the paved roads in the area and I downloaded a google map showing gravel.

Hey Randall,

I am away from my county road map with the actual road numbers but if you go to Crossroads Store (where hwy H and 181 kind of intersect for lack of better words) take the chip and seal road straight beside it. That road will fork about 1/2 mile and you will stay right. Go until you see the Ecardt Berry Farm sign and some River of Life signs and take that left and you will run into the river. That access is the upper-most access in the trout water, Kelly Ford.

I'll throw some county road numbers on here for you in the morning. It's one of those things, I have driven it 1000 times and given directions to it 150 times.....but I still don't know the county road numbers. :)

Right on, thanks. I think we're meeting in Gainesville tomorrow around noon to fish the afternoon then float Saturday.

Gotta bag it, too much water. USGS showed it spike just above 4000 cfs.
