Hi guys/gals-

I was looking for some advice on places to take my wife for hiking and trout fishing. I saw the previous posts on camping at the Current River, but I didn't get the answer I was looking for.

1. Can you park at Tan Vat and camp anywhere along the river between there and Baptist?

2. Where could I take my wife for some backcountry camping and troutfishing in Northern Arkansas. Ideally, we want to hike in, camp and fish in a remote stream. I'm doubting this is possibe since the White river is quite large, but I thought I'd see what you guys thought?

Thanks for your help.

There aren't really any opportunities to hike in and fish in a "remote stream" for trout in northern Arkansas that I'm aware of. It's possible you could get into a few trout on the last couple miles of the lower Buffalo during the winter months, but I'm not really sure how easily you could hike into that area. I know there are a few trails through the leatherwood wilderness, but it might be a little more difficult than what you're looking for.

There is some fantastic hiking along the Upper Buffalo. I hiked a trail (can't remember which) that takes you to Hemmed in Hollow, and then the next day up on a massive bluff overlooking the Buffalo River, one of the most spectacular views in the Ozarks. With a little research, you can easily find it. I'm not a trout fisherman, so I don't know if they can be found near there, but there are certainly smallmouth in that area of the river.

The answer to your first question is yes, you can park at Tan Vat and camp anywhere except right at the access. There are some gravel bars below there, and below Baptist that you could camp and fish off. This time of year, you'll see few other people. Obviously there's lots of browns and rainbows in that area, and they'll be hitting egg patterns like crazy in November.
