First Trip to Taney

Me and my father are finally headed out, I can't wait after reading so much about this place. Awhile ago i read on this forum that Phil, told a newbie to stop by his place to pick up a map of Taney, and get a general idea for safe boating. I'm just wondering if that is still Ok, I also wanted to pick up some drift rigs, and any advice.
