I had 3 guys float from Cane Bluff to Greer to target the smallies and goggle eye. I know this is a report that is long overdue, since I'm always chasing trout. They said that over 2 days they had about 100 fish between them, with smallmouth ranging up to 16 inches and a goggle eye of 11 inches. The action was fast and furious on soft plastic grubs. They didn't tell me exactly which ones they used, but I know they bought some beetle spins. Bass hunters take note and get out on the river, because they are biting.

I hope to get out this weekend and do some SMB fishing on the Current river.

I'll do it. I hope the river stage stays fishable. The last couple of years, during the opening weekend of Turkey season, the river got high and off color. Too high to fish. Looks to be good this year.

I will have to agree with your post, Brian! Last May, we floated Thomasville to Cane Bluff with close to the same results...in fact we had to stop fishing because of the miles needed to cover and the amount of daylight that remained. It was a difficult float at that time of the year, but the fish were pooled up...and we had never floated that part of the river. Smallies were darting everywhere as we passed over them in our canoes. This Memorial Day week, our plans are to float Cane Bluff to Greer or Greer to our campsite. Maybe both!
