Quoting the poster from another board :

" Apparently, this sturgeon was caught on the Fraser River in BC. just above the Mission bridge four weeks ago. It weighed in at over 1000lbs and measured out at 11'1". It was 56" around the girth. It took over 6 and a half hours and 4 dozen beer and 4 guys taking turns reeling, to land it! Chuck that in a pan and fry it...!!!! "

Wow, I had no idea they got that large.

I'm not a tree hugger, have killed my fair share of deer/turkey, nor do I eat free range chickens and wear birkenstocks--but it seems a shame to kill an animal like that. It would have had to been extremely old wouldn't it?

Here in Washington we also get big Sturgeon, but they all have to be released if they are over 48 inches or less than 42". I'm not exactly sure of the rules in Canada for sturgeon, but I would bet they were required to release that fish.
