303 British or 303 Savage? Not the same round, make sure of which he needs. 303 British is for the British Enfield service rifle, 303 Savage was chambered in the Savage 99 leaver gun.

I was going to say try Doc Holiday's, but you found it.

Is someone not planning ahead these days? .303 (of either stripe) isn't as common as it used to be. They need to stay stocked up. Or reload.

Not very good planning on his part. I asked him if he wanted to go shoot with me and my boy at the rifle range, he said ok, but i have to get some ammo first. Thats when i said..ummmmmm hey gomer, you better start making phone calls

British 303 is getting real hard to find. Ive been looking for a few weeks and thought i was going to have to special order it but finally found some at Cabelas in KCK. Didnt look at it real close and and when I got home found out it was FMJ. Not what I was looking for. Happened to be in Dicks sporting goods at 119th and Nall in overland Park the other day and they had 3 boxes. They still have two if anyone is needing it.

Gunsmith and have it bored for 30-06. My granddad did that with his 303 enfield years ago.

OK, it's not April 1!!!

Not to be confrontational but, the 303 British bore bullet diameter is .311 while the 30 06 is .308. The British round in a rimmed cartridge with a rim diameter of .540, the 06 is rimless with a measurement of .473. Not only would that conversion be completely inaccurate, but probably dangerous. The only British enfield conversions I'm aware of are the P-17 enfields, and some of the stronger SMLE Enfields re-barreled to 45-70.

Is it possible that what your grandfather had was a US Model 1917 Enfield, which would have been chambered in 30 06 originally?
