Ämp Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 the eccoli is not the problem its what caused the eccoli.. pollution of our streams via septic problems, livestock and trash mainly plastic. I am sure one or 2 small fish wont kill you. But then again why eat a p00p fish when you dont have to. Idk just putting it out there...eat at your own risk or drive a extra 3 miles to a non fecal infested lake. btw even if its posted after the fact these rivers dont just magically clean up..and the fish in them all have trace amounts of anti-psychotics all the way down to mercury stored in their fat..no matter how clean it gets the bigger fish still carry the mercury from plastic-synthesis and the toxins from everything else til the day they die.(or get ate) .
Fly_Guy Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 agreed - E. coli are everywhere - fecal coliforms however are indicators of sewage, which is an indicator of poor water treatment/leaky septic tanks, which is an indicator of other chemicals that may have been flushed down the toilet more sinister than just the sewage. The microbes present little harm to your fish, but other chemicals can potentially bioaccumulate inside apex predators such as your catfish. However, what is life w/out a litte risk? All in all, eating catfish from Spgfld lake is one of the least dangerous 'living on the edge' things you can do.
