Gavin Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 Stayed at Montauk with the fam & some friends this weekend...Not much time to fish, but I got out Saturday & Sunday AM...Limited time, so I didnt even bother with the fly rod. Didnt matter much...They seemed to like my jerkbait well enough. Caught two nice browns on back to back casts at Tan Vat on Saturday then 5-6 small ones...some guys went up, so I split for Parker but drew a blank down there. Fished from Baptist down close to Ashley on Sunday. Caught around a dozen, One surprise rainbow, and a smallmouth for the Trifecta.
cnr Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 Sounds like we had about the same day, I fished the same area on Sunday from Baptist to Ashley (started at 10) with Rapala f11s and f9s. Had 11 fish (5 were rainbows) and one brown 22.5" long (skinny though). I also had the bonus Smallmouth down by the Ashley creek confluence. I didn't find any pattern to the fish I just caught them in about every kind of water. Did you find any pattern to where the fish were holding? How do you like those LC baits? Seems like every other cast with the Rapala f11s they were getting tangled up on the hooks and line. They just don't cast very straight!
cnr Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 Thanks for the info Gavin, sorry I missed you. I like the tight wobble of the Rapala but think I will invest in a few LCs to have some other options. I like to fly-fish mostly but have been giving the hardbaits a try this year to see if I can connect with a fish you measure in pounds not inches. I know they're around but I still haven't connected with one yet. I probably need to be out a little earlier than 10 too!
