Bill Babler Posted December 4, 2009 Author Posted December 4, 2009 Hey Bill - I'm running a 12-year-old Humminbird on my console, and I sure want to replace it before spring. I'm real interested in your recommendation as I think the depthfinder you're talking about may be within my price range. You mean the 520C Lowrance, right? That's a 5" screen color rig that includes GPS, per my Google search. I couldn't find the letters LCG associated with those, but I expect that just means "liquid crystal graph" or something similar? Some of the depthfinders I found have different numbers and letters besides 520C in their listing. Could you tell me just which model it is you like so well? That'd be a big help. Thanks. Sam, when I bought mine, that unit was over a grand, installed at Marine Repair Center. About $850.00 for the unit and tranducer, $200.00 for the Ram and GPS mount, and then another $100.00 plus for the new map. Plus professional instal, and I believe it came to close to $1,200.00. I can se a BB drop with it and it is very compact. If you are getting a new or preowned unit, now is the time. Lowrance has gone to mostly HD and the old numbered units like I have are a lot less money. It would still pay to have some one set it up perfect. I know where there is a 37C like my main bow unit in the pic's if you are interested. Probably get you into that unit at about the same price. It is very large however and takes a Ocean Size Ram to support it. It is a new unit that was just purchased, by a Dr. just before the HD10 came out. He had to have one of course, and that makes the 37 available. I thought about buying it for a spare, but that is a lot of money to have sitting on the shelf. You want your best unit on the bow. Use your console unit to find your locations, then tune in with the bow. PM me if your interested, http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
Members Bassaholic Posted December 4, 2009 Members Posted December 4, 2009 Dateline-- Shell Knob Missouri. The Beckster and I hit the Water this Sunny December 1st. 2009 at ll AM. Didn't take us long and it really should not take you long to find fish, on a lake that is bank full of feeding agressive fish. Key is depth."AS ALWAYS." The Champion gas gauge said we used 1.2 gallons in 5 hrs. on the pond. 175 White Bass, 35 K's with 15 keeps and one gynormas Flathead were the take. We caught, I'm going to say 30 plus White's in the over 2.5 pound range. We tried to only keep two limits of males in the 1.5 and under size. Had probably 10 big, big White's at close to 4 Pounders. All these fish are just full of threadfin shad and small crawfish, including the White's that are also eating the crustations. 36ft. to 52ft. on main lake flats were the ticket, and really these fish are lake wide. Don't expect to see them untill you start dropping the spoon. The fish will just look like a very heavy or dark line lying directly on the bottom. As the spoon hits the bottom and you jerk it up, they explode. 1/2 oz chartruse jigging spoons are being eaten alive. For the full story and lots of Pic's go to my new webstie at www.whiteriveroutfitters.com and check out the Table Rock Lake Blog Winter Bass Fishing. Very seldon can we guarantee fish on the Rock. Right now it is no problem. Notice the dark line on the bottom of the one graph picture. It just looks like a heavy blanket on the bottom. Next graph picture is the explosion. Good Luck Expand both of the graph pictures. Look at the blanket on the top picture, with one fish lifting off the bottom. Look at our lines dropping with the spoons onto the bottom and see how the fish are boiling. You can see the spoon and the lines, as well as the blanket and the explosion. Boys, I don't know how much more I can do. This is probably the most deep fishing information that has every been put up anywhere with the depths and stradgity for the Rock. Hope it helps.
Members Bassaholic Posted December 4, 2009 Members Posted December 4, 2009 I always talk about how I need to learn to use me electronics to catch more fish and and this makes me more motivated then ever to do so. Thanks for the pics. I have an LMS 240 . My transducer shoots through the hull. If set up correctly can I do the same with this unit or would you reccomend I upgrade? Thanks

Flippin Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 Foz, you bet I have. I have one on the Stratos and one of the colsole of the Champ. They are just as good a unit as the 37C. How to set it up is very easy, run your chart speed and ping speed full, your grayline at 70% or so, water clarity a clear, sensitivity depends on your tranducer, I have a hot shot and am still sit on 60%. You can go up as high as you need. Surface is at 10' bottom at 80' and you can use the split screen and scrool up or down on your picture. I will usually zoom in 1 time. If you can't get it, I would be more that happy to sit it for you if you bring it by. The 520 LCG is fantastic. There is no reason to spend more money, it is the bomb. Bill, What is a hot shot tranducer?
Members fishin_addict Posted December 4, 2009 Members Posted December 4, 2009 AWESOME STUFF. I can't remember a better post anywhere. Thanks for taking the time to put this together. Got me thinking Table Rock in the fall/winter as I love the whites. Catch many crappie jigging spoons in the winter?

Members 3inonegod Posted December 6, 2009 Members Posted December 6, 2009 Bill, I come down to the rock 2 - 4 times a year. I live in the Saint Louis area and need your help. My wife just bought me the 1197c si for Christmas and I was hoping I could hire you to go on my boat for a 1/2 or full day to teach me how to use it. I will be down in mid April, let me know. I am excited to learn how to use it and will certainly work with it prior. Please let me know. Thanks
