Members trout_bum Posted December 8, 2009 Members Posted December 8, 2009 The spawn is in high gear at Crane Creek. I spent the day walking the banks in and around town observing spawning activity. Some of the redds were occupied and some had already been abandoned. I didn't fish very much as to not stress these fish any more than I had to. I was having too much fun watching these fish on their nests. I would just like to remind anyone reading this that it is very important to be extra careful where you step while wading in Crane Creek right now and in the next few weeks. ness Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 Good pics, and thanks for posting that. Folks -- leave 'em alone until they're done. I have it on good authority that the Golden Rule applies to spawning trout, not just people. John
troutfiend1985 Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 You would almost think that MDC would close certain areas of Crane during the spawning season in order to protect this stream. I love to fish Crane, but I also realize that in order to fish this stream we must protect what we have. I know that Yellowstone closes its streams each year in order to protect the native cutthroats, something like this may be a way to protect the fish. Yes, I know that its just on paper and it takes enforcement to make sure that the trout are safe, but it gives enforcement another tool to protect this stream. It also gives a citizen a way of reporting poachers, as the agent would be able to respond to a citizens call that there is a person fishing on Crane during the restricted dates. Just a thought. By the way, awesome pics, I put one as my background. “The greatest menace to freedom is an inert people” J. Brandeis
