Mike Worley Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 Lake Trout? How long ago did they do that? I am assuming that they never survived. Anyone ever catch on down here? I do remember some lake trout being caught near the Bull Shoals dam 1n the 1980's & 90's most where caught spooning deep water. The best I recall those fish were 12-20 pounders. I do remember catching some lake trout in the White river below Bull Shoals dam after the flood gates were open in the mid- 80's those were smaller fish that were assumed to have came thru or over the dam during high water. The information I remember about the lake trout stocking in Bull Shoals lake was it was a small project that was discontenued do to lack of interest from the public and low creel counts.
Members MnWalleyeGuy Posted January 7, 2010 Members Posted January 7, 2010 any idea when they stopped stocking them? I grew up on the north shore of Lake Superior, and we mainly chased lakers and coho's. water is too cold for anything else!
Whodat Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 What the heck has this got to do with the pothole?
Sam Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 I'd say we're not going to get a Pothole fishing report until the weather turns to something a little better than the North Pole. Still, we can't talk about anything else here while we're waiting. Nope, that wouldn't be right. I wonder how the fishing is at the Pothole.
Wayne SW/MO Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 At least its a safe bet it won't freeze over. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Members MnWalleyeGuy Posted January 10, 2010 Members Posted January 10, 2010 Sorry, I guess I should have premised my question "has anyone caught a lake trout in the pothole"? I am new to the area, sorry for getting you all worked up Whodat......

I am new to the area, sorry for getting you all worked up Whodat...... When they were there they probably did. The pothole attracts most of the fish present in BS at one time or another because it offers current quite often and warm water in the winter. When the water level is normal and stable it can produce a lot of fish. There is always a walleye run in February and March. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
taxidermist Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 Whodat, What has stocking of stripers got to do with the pothole? Look up where the Missouri State record stiper was caught a coupel years back. and thenumbers of large walleye that have been caught there!! Lots of large stripers from that area.
Wayne SW/MO Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 seems to me that a state record brown came from the mouth of Swan? Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
