Geoff Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 I STILL want to get to Miami and fish the canals for peacock bass, baby tarpon and snook. Michigan and the driftless region sound tempting, too. I might try for that this year or next year, havent decided yet. my cousin lives in Miami right by one of the canals and i can come visit whenever i want for however long. so i need to do that soon "When you do things right, people wont be sure you've done anything at all."
Members Robert Posted January 3, 2010 Members Posted January 3, 2010 A little less rain would help a lot. Just staying healthy, catch and releasing some fish that have given me a really good fight. I have a couple of trips to Michigan planed, a trip to Washington and Oregon as well.
msamatt Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 I want to improve my fly fishing skills to the point where I'm not constantly aggravated by my lack of technical abilility. So, practice and repeat. I'm also planning on turning 40 on a 10 day fishing trip in Quetico with three good friends and am going to try to catch a lake trout this time around. I've caught plenty of smallies, pike, and walleye in the past but haven't caught a laker just yet. We'll see. msamatt Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 My goal is to get my elbow well just so I can fish doc says it tennis elbow any body have any quick cures? I developed tendonitis in my left shoulder last winter and it took me about six weeks of serious physical therapy, and constant working out ever since to regain my full range of motion and then help keep it in shape. The good news is that all of the other stretching and weight lifting I do to help keep that shoulder working are good for the rest of my body as well. I don't think there are any quick cures to tendonitis or tennis elbow, just unrelenting work to help manage the pain and regain your range of motion. Your doc should refer you to a physical therapist. Matt Wier http://missourismallmouthalliance.blogspot.com The Missouri Smallmouth Alliance: Recreation, Education, and Conservation since 1992
KCRIVERRAT Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 Good luck Matt on the lake trout. I've been on lake trout waters but it really wasn't the right time of the year. Good luck also on expanding the MSA! SW Missouri is a great place to start. I joined the MSA a year a go. I can't see any support from the KC area, although I know there are smallmouth fisherman up here. Some of them probably fish the Kansas reservoirs. There are some nice smallmouth to be caught over there. Would like to see some KC guys speak up on this forum who are smallmouth guys and fish the streams down south talk a bit, if they care to. I can make a Springfield meeting, and then visit some friends for a fishing trip. St. Louis meetings don't work for me. HUMAN RELATIONS MANAGER @ OZARK FISHING EXPEDITIONS

I was on a great lake trout lake in Quetico three years ago but I was paddling like a demon in order to cope with large quartering waves and all I could focus on was stroking and reaching the far shore as fast as possible. We passed about seven other canoes filled with guys trolling about this large, bowl shaped lake. I don't know that our 2010 trip will take us into any lake trout water but I think it would be fun to catch lake trout, walleye, and of course, smallmouth on the same wilderness trip. I didn't make it to Quetico in 2009 but had a great trip in 2008 and I'm really looking forward to the trip in 2010. You'll be hearing more about the MSA expansion and the plans develop. We're almost done with the website update and I sent an e-mail to members so they can take a sneak peak at the new forum. If you didn't get the e-mail shoot me an p.m. and I'll send you the link. Its still a work in progress but I like it. Thanks for your support. zipstick Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 My goal is to get my elbow well just so I can fish doc says it tennis elbow any body have any quick cures? Slider, I also gave myself a bad case of tennis elbow this summer on my casting arm srewing hundreds of screwsin a subfloor , and 6 months later it's just as tender. I can't spinfish, nor can I pitch or backhand worth a darn, but I can still cast underhand and overhand cast the baitcaster. I have researched this ailment on the web and talked to people who should know what to do. On one hand, rest is definitely required, but stretching and massaging the elbow is also recommended. I have noticed that if I go a week without casting, the imflamation and pain are reduced!

taxidermist Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 I am going to learn to catch stripers this year. Santa brought me one down rigger and I bought a second. Funny thing I had a fellow walk intot he shop this week and ask if I was interested in buying a tackle box, his stepdad had passed away. I looked at the box. Full of large striper lures, eels, spoons terminal tackle. You bet I took the deal. Yep we are going to learn striper fishing this year.
troutfiend1985 Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 Catch a Hybrid Striper on the fly rod, catch a Musky on the fly rod. But, the big goal is to catch a cutthroat at yellowstone. Going up there this summer and I am going to explore the small creeks. I guess my other fishing goal is to not be eaten by a Grizzly. “The greatest menace to freedom is an inert people” J. Brandeis
