Troutn Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 I just have a quick question. In the past I have done all my fishing in the Trophy Area. I will soon have access to a boat and would really like to explore the area around Cooper and Mr. Lilley's or other parts of the lake that might be recomended. Since I haven't been to this part of the lake, I was hoping for a little information. It seems that I have read that there is a channel and that the north/south? holds more fish. Info like that would be great, and of course hot lures to use. I will be using spinning gear and plan on using jig and float most of the time. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank You. Mr. Lilley - I really appreciate the time and effort you put into this forum. I visit daily and thank you for all the great information.
Members bubbaray Posted May 8, 2006 Members Posted May 8, 2006 I fish by boat there everytime. I have found most of it to be good areas, but we like to motor up past Lilleys to the curve and float (or troll) back down past the Corps boat ramp and have always done very well. I can't tell you much about other areas as we have never had any reason to move because we do so well there. Plus it saves on that gas.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted May 8, 2006 Root Admin Posted May 8, 2006 Not sure what you mean by north/south... The channel doesn't come into play till Short Creek--there's not much of one till you get up there in the lake. The chanel generally is on the bluff side of the lake. I fish both sides and the middle... I have said there's alot of trout on the shallow side that people miss because they don't think about them being over there... not that there's more fish there. I like to fish the middle or drop from flat to channel because trout will hold there. Lures- jigs would be best. We have a new micro jig - orange headed sculpin- Bill Babler special ordered them and they are in. They'd be excellent.
Troutn Posted May 9, 2006 Author Posted May 9, 2006 Thanks a ton for the information! I will have to come by and pick up a few of the new jigs as well. Thanks again for the tips.
Members Rick F Posted May 9, 2006 Members Posted May 9, 2006 I concur with the other gentleman who said they don't have to go anywhere because they do so well. The times I have fished there(boat only) we have caught our limit and then some within that 1 mile stretch. Jigs and rapalas did us well. When we wanted a change of scenery we would go down by the bridges and had good success down there as well. Don't know how it is since construction began in Old Branson. You should tear them up in front of lilleys landing. For us when the jig bite slowed down the rapala bite picked up. I have heard that spinners do well also but only tried that by the dam. Good luck.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted May 9, 2006 Root Admin Posted May 9, 2006 A gentleman rents a stall here several times a year and fishes about everyday he's here in town. He trolls up and down in front of the resort and catches his limit... just saw him go by. I'll have to ask him what he uses.
Members Bill Saenger Posted May 11, 2006 Members Posted May 11, 2006 Hi to all! I may be the troller Phil is referring to in the last post to this thread although the reference to a Gentleman threw me at fist. When I am trolling it is generally with a F4 silver Flatfish on two pound test Vanish flourocarbon. I place a small swivel in the line to minimize line twist and place about three BB size split shot just below the swivel. The split shot helps to cast the Flatfish out further and then helps it to run a little deeper in the water. I estimate that this rig runs about 5 to 8 feet deep. Because of my inability to stand or walk for any length of time I am pretty much limited to fishing from a boat. Trolling is just one of many techniques that I use. As Phil Lilley has already mentioned, jig fishing can be very effective. And there is a multitude of other lures, spinners, etc., that you can use. Hope this helps. Bill Saenger

Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted May 13, 2006 Root Admin Posted May 13, 2006 No restrictions on Taney. There are on some rivers but someone else will have to answer that one.
