I'm so tired of all this snow and subzero weather up here. I'm gonna head down to Bennett tomorrow for a day of fishing. I know it's going to be cold but I'm tougher than woodpecker lips ! :D

Good luck to you! I was there on Monday this week. The creek was up some and a little milky colored. Lots of fish in the creek, you should do well. Tommorrow is going to be in the 20's and sunshine.

Keep your eye out for me, I'll be there by noon or so and gone by 3.. I'll most likely be just above or below the dam.. Hunting those lunkers with a maribou.. Might get adventurous and bring the fly rod, but I don't know what zone that will end me up in..

Anybody wanna make a guess as to what pattern/lure will work best tomorrow?

OK Cricket, I'll keep an eye out for ya. I'll probably be below the dam myself. I'll be the tall guy with the funny looking camo and rabbit fur hat B) I've been down there twice since the winter season has been in affect and flat tore them up !! I hope the fishing is still good. I'm not sure if I'm gonna break the fly rod out or not, I'm kinda dangerous with that thing :D

As far as lures, I'll probably start out with a John Deere jig and then something in a big sculpin pattern. It's hard to beat those 2 lures at Bennett.

OK I'll guess. The best fly to use is a flo green crackleback. Strip it or fish it dry over slower water. Then put a 18 or 20 midge under a crackleback. I would tell you what color to use but people would hang me when I get back. LOL have fun.

Just got back from bennett. Went over about 9:30 this morning and the temp was 0 degrees. Mike Runyan said it had got to minus 12 overnight. Anyway the sun was out, no wind, and it warmed up quick. I walked from the dam to the whistle bridge searching for lunkers. The mist coming off the water made it really hard to see in most places, but I did mangage to find 7 that I fished to. Hooked up with 3, and was fortunate enough to land each one. Two went 3.5, and the largest one was 5.5. A great day to be out and I caught some nice fish to boot. I only saw 8 anglers on the creek today and they were all catching some nice fish. Hopefully Flatcat and Cricket will give their reports later.

Hi Guys, I got started fishing about 10:30 and fished till a little after 3:00 Fishing was pretty good. I didn't hook any big fish but had fun none the less. I caught 21 Rainbows,1 Brown and 2 over grown shiners. The biggest fish was about 2 lbs It sure was nice to get outside and do something. I mainly fished below the dam down through zone 3 I've got a RC swap meet next weekend but I'll be back down the following weekend.

Lets us know how ya did Cricket

Well I did alright myself.. I started just above the dam and didn't go more than a 1/4 mile from there downstream.. I stuck with my ultralight and my little maribous and left my waders in the tracker..

I hooked a few above the dam and had one pretty big one hit my lure 5 times, but just didn't get the hook in there right, never did feel a tug.. Oh well, too cold for breaking out the camera anyway.. Least that's my excuse...

Hooked a few more below the dam and down under the bridge. Then I walked over to the outlets just below the raceways.. The fish were stacked up there (as usual) and I hooked a good ten there before they got wise to my maribous. Didn't hook any lunkers there, but that may be because the majority of the ones in thathole were belly up dead. I counted at least 4 trout that would have been 5 lbs or more (all rainbows) and several smaller trout.. Dunno why or how, maybe the herons got them? One things for sure, no one can blame it o the giggers! lol

fished on down the stream, walking along the rock ledges below the bridge.. Managed to bring on up behind every rock and twig.. But no monsters there either. Watched a fly guy land one that woulda went 6 lbs, I heard him say he foul hooked it, then corrected himself when he unwound the fish and found the fly securely in his mouth. Thought I'd test the theory and, upon walking back upstream I commented "Did I hear you say you snagged one that went 6 pounds?" with a smile and a thumbs up.. He looked at me a little crossways and said (politely), "no, I was afraid I had snagged him, but it was in his mouth!"

I just chuckled and said "Oh, I didnt mean to imply anything.. I use the term snag rather loosely.. Sorry. Good catch man!"

anyway.. That's pretty much the whole story. I ended the day with a notch count of 22, and I recall at least 10 that spit the hook were over 10 pounds! (that's my story, and I'm stickin to it!)

I'm headed down to Waynesville in the morn. I've got some test drilling to do on a hillside there in town. I keep telling everyone there isn't enough rock in it to blast out but I reckon I'll have to show them. I'm hoping to finish up Thursday evening so I can stop by Bennett on my way home on Friday.

Dang Cricket I was looking for another guy with a spinning rig but all I saw were fly fisherman. I saw several dead fish but I think they came from the hatchery. Hope I see you down there another time, maybe I'll run into Laker there too and he can give me some fly fishing lessons !!
