Wow, I'd be willing to PAY for more descriptions of what these screen shots are showing. Thanks alot RedBud. That was awesome! I can compare the DI and the SI with the regular color screen shots, and it really gives me a heads up with my stoneage, black and white, Fishmark 480. I see stuff on it and have really no idea what it is telling me. Comparing what I've seen to these screen shots is GREAT! Thanks alot. This should be a thread that keeps going and going, with people posting screen shots more often of just "stuff". Im not asking for secret spots or locations, just keep these shots coming and maybe a little description of whats on the screen! Thanks a lot guys for taking the time and making the effort to post this stuff for guys like me to drool over.

One additional huge benefit of the most recent upgrade is the addition of the Lowrance-like color option on the sonar. With all the new down imaging pics that I've seen on this site and around the web, nearly every single one that included the sonar view was using the new colors. Personally for me, I couldn't hardly see the original HB color scheme w/o taking off my polarized shades. Fantastic improvement IMO.

Thanks for the pics from your 997. If you can, could you post up your exact specs? I was out on Beaver with my 997 Friday and did not get great results with DI. Will probably try again today, but your shots are great, so would make a good place to start.

Which DI beam (narrow, med, wide)?

SI frequency?

SI enhance settings?

DI sensitivity?

Etc?

The settings on my 997 are as follows

DI beam wide

DI sens 12-14

SI freq.455khz

SI sens 11

SI enhance sens.11,contrast 13,sharpness off

switchfire clear

sonar beam 200/83khz [ 83khz sens 3]

bottomview - structure id

surface clutter 7

chart speed 5

low range- auto

these are the settings on my unit right now. I have a 12volt source [fused 3amp] in the house so I dont have to sit in my boat to review my day on the water. Make sure you have the right transducer selected ,it should say on the bottom of the box if you still have it.It took a little tweeking to get the transducer mounted at the right angle to the water[lake bed] make sure the trans. is parallel to the water line on your boat My champ 196 sits bow high on the trailer,this made a big difference .Try to keep your boat travelling in a straight line using your compass bearing.It also seems to make a difference how my out board is trimmed. These things are remarkably sensitive make small adjustments.My guess is a transducer problem because i dont really have to change settings on the 997 to get a good sounding.
