Aaron J Scott Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 I plan on going down to Barclay tomorrow. Last time I was there was back before Christmas. Looks like the river's back down to about where it was then. Should be a good day to fish. Holler at me if you see a blue Prius with trouty stickers in the lot. Save Scratch, Raise Cash. Fish Itch!
oneshot Posted January 17, 2010 Author Posted January 17, 2010 They released 150 at 64 and Barclay but the ones I seen were on the small side. oneshot
Members CS Huntley Posted January 17, 2010 Members Posted January 17, 2010 Went yesterday (Barclay) and the bite was a little slow. Caught a couple on a weighted pine squirell (brown) and a buddy of mine was catching them on a crawdad pattern. I made fun of him at first for using it, but he shut me up pretty quick once it started producing.

Its especially aggravating when some kid puts something stupid on and the proceeds to tear you a new one. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

I only fished for about an hour and didn't get any hookups. Had some good looks from a brown scud. You know what that crawdad pattern is called that your buddy was using? I've been looking for a simple crawdad pattern to tie and like the chamois claw idea. Save Scratch, Raise Cash. Fish Itch!

Also saw a car in the lot with a K-State front plate. Was that anyone on here? I heard that brown or tan scuds were working well in the river last weekend and that an orange soft hackle was working best in the park. We fished that one hole above you guys for about an hour and then went downstream of the boat ramp to the gravel bar across the river. I fished an egg pattern and a soft hackle and had no luck on either one. Then switched to streamers with brown seeming to work best. I'm not sure what the crawdad pattern was called but he bought it from Readings Fly Shop on HWY 64 just a few miles East of the Park. The guy in there should be able to hook you up with one. My friend said he was catching them last weekend on the same pattern.

You mentioned your pine squirell (last one in the tree?) and your buddie's crawdad, so that must have been you guys. I saw you heading through the woods for the lower part as I was leaving.
