CaptainJoe Posted January 21, 2010 Author Posted January 21, 2010 Wow! Those pictures are amazing. And here I thought my 520c was pretty cool. Any idea how the Lowrance HD compares to the Hummingbird Side Imaging? If I started a thread trying to capture the best of Lowrance and Humminbird, the posts would last forever. We would never get time to fish and I do not believe that we would settle the main question of which one is the best. Of course, Don House loves his Humminbird and I love my Lowrance. Both units have features that are different from each other, but it will always come down to the preferences, needs, and wants of the buyer. I would suggest reading the Bass Pro and Cabela's catalog, go play with them at Bass Pro and Cabela's, and then talk to users of each. It is a big investment and some homework is required. Members zzjonze Posted January 22, 2010 Members Posted January 22, 2010 Thanks a lot Captain Joe. I have been looking into the Lowrance® HDS-5 Fishfinder/GPS Chartplotter with Lake Insight™ and StructureScan. I also been looking into the reviews and seems like a few (very few) have complaints. After seeing the pictures you posted I think I'd put the Lowrance unit on my boat. What I'd like to see is some pictures of a school of fish, in or out of structure. So if possible could you please take a snapshot and point out when you got time. Thanks very much for the pictures already posted. ZZ

Good post Joe! these are like buying a truck which do you like better ford or chevy or like you Joe a Dodge.. Man we could be here all day.. I have my reasons for liking Humminbird better as do you with your Lowrance... Let's just go fishing and you make your own choice... But you are right ask questions to people that really use them.. Most will tell you pro's and con's of each unit and they both have them, cost is one for both!! Good Fishing Don Capt. Jason Essary Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 Awesome Pics. I have been drooling over them since I got the BP cat. I have a question, how would it work for finding specific small pieces of structure on mostly barron banks. I would love to have one for just such a use. I have a question, how would it work for finding specific small pieces of structure on mostly barron banks. I would love to have one for just such a use. Take a look at this photo. On the right hand side, you can seen two small rockpiles. If you wanted to fish these, you could hit the Exit key and a cursor appears. Move the cursor to one or both of the rockpiles and hit Waypoint. A GPS waypoint will show on your screen, and if two units are networked, both screens. If (and probably when) I decide to get the system, I think it might be worth the money for a trip with ya to learn more about it. Wish I could afford it right now, but it will have to wait.
