I read alot of topics on this forum about different lures, baits,to use to catch trout. But none stands out better than the marbou jig for a shot at catcthing a trophy trout (both wild and stocked).I've been using jigs sense the mid-70's and I can personally atest to that, so can the late Rip Collins.Since the advent of newer materials in threards, glues, krystal flash, and so on,I could go on and on this simple but effective little bait.Phil provides some great insights, but I stumbled another article on (Ozark trout tales)a guy named Steve Wright interviewed Jerry Dudley, this article puts the jig into prospective, on both technique, and effectivness.

Your right, the jig is very hard to beat. Caught my largest in Taney on a black 1/64 crappie jig, 28" rainbow, a 24" six pound 14 oz at RR on a brown jig, and numerous 18-20 inchers on various types of jigs. Biggest to date on the fly rod are in the 18" neighborhood, but one of those was on a 1/100 olive jig under a strike indicator.

Do not take me wrong I love to fly fish, its a great way to fish but,in freezing whether an high water, I'll always have jig tied on to one of my rods

I learned from Jerry Dudley. He's not a guide - he has a dispatch service for truckers. His son JD is another great fisherman.

I would check my copy of Ozark Trout Tales I bought in 1995... but I loaned it out sometime in 2000 and never got it back. It was signed too.

From what I understand.. they are hard to come by now. Just my luck.

Just once I wish a trout would wink at me!

I don't know if you are interested in buying another one, but I found this book on Amazon.com. Here's the hyperlink. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1602390487/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_1?pf_rd_p=486539851&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=0963883291&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=03FGCWZX4BW1N0BJVY96

looks like you can get a used one for fairly cheap.

I hate it when I loan a friend something and never get it, squatters rights I guess. :glare:

Hope that helps.
