Here are photos of fish that I was asked to get. These photos were taken yesterday on Table Rock Lake. The vertical line interference on some of the 2D sonar screens is from another boat's sonar that was operating close by. They were taken during the American Bass Anglers D64 Tournament out of Aunts Creek. These photos were all taken in Fisher Creek. It was a tough day on the water, but I managed to get 2nd Place and won Big Bass with a 3.57# largemouth caught on a blue and silver Rapala Ice Jig in 70 feet of water. Take a good look at Shot 9 and you can see my jig moving up and down and then catching a fish. Air Temps: low 40s. Cloudy in the early a.m. then rain the rest of the day. The rest of the information is recorded on the photos.

Capt. Joe-

Those are some great pics! For a guy that has never used sonar to locate fish and really has no clue as to what to look for on a graph and what you are actually seeing on the screen this is a huge help. I will not be able to afford the SI models but when i do end up getting some sonar this will be a good reference point when i first start out hopefully this summer/spring. Thanks for sharing.

No, they were not. All of the photos were taken with the HDS-10, which is mounted on the bow and the transducers are mounted on the trolling motor. Shots 6 and 7 are quad screen views. I like this view, because you have everything in front of you, including your waypoints. Tried to send you a PM, but it did not work, so I posted the info here.

Captain Joe, Those are impressive looking pics there. Thanks for posting. I have a fishin bud who has the same setup on the front of his boat but is having problems. The main trouble I think is that the transducer is very undependable. When going from place to place each time he puts the trolling motor back into the water it's a crap shoot on how long if at all it will take the unit to lock on to the bottom. It is very frustrating with this level of equipment. He has replaced the transducer but still no luck. Any suggestions?

I am not having that problem. When I lower the trolling motor, both transducers lock on almost immediately.

What is not locking in, the 2D sonar, the StructureScan, or both? I would assume from your post that it is the 2D transducer that is not locking in. If this is the case, here are a few suggestions: 1)make sure that the transducer is pointing straight down. Look at it when you are on the bow, since your weight will affect the level of the transducer in the water. 2) The new transducer may be defective, as well. I would call Marine Repair Center in Springfield 417.833.9191 as ask them if they have a transducer tester and have his tranducers tested. Not many places have these anymore, but if there is one out there, they would have it. 3) With the sonar screen activated, hit the stop sonar button before you raise the trolling motor, then reverse the process when you put the trolling motor back into the water. 4) Make sure that the correct transducer is selected in the sonar, installation menu.

Would appreciate some feedback on what worked or did not work just in case others ask me the same question.

Good luck,

getfished,

Let me add one more thing to check out and that is the unit's software version. Currently, all HDS units need the "Application" version to be 2.5.31.56 and "Platform" version 56.13-3. Hit "MENU" twice, select "SYSTEM", then select "ABOUT" to check the versions. If his versions do not match these versions, go to Lowrance.com and update the unit's software. The latest software update came out 2/1/10, so it is very recent.
