Guest csfishinfool Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 I use the Palomar and loop the eye twice, but I am still having problems. I also use the co-polymer Yozuri or P-Line Floroclear. The second link that I provided in my original post shows an easy way to tie the Fish N Fool knot. I will take a look at the Tackle Tour site. Thanks. For a line to line knot, I have been using the uni-to-unit knot and that knot is very good. I was having problems with the palomar knot. So when I was at Bass Pro I talked to Dion Hibdon. I asked him with floro line what knot he uses when jig fishing, he said the palomar. I told him that I was breaking fish off, and he gave me a few tips on trying it. First off when your pulling the knot tight put two fingers in your loop and pull the acutal knot tight, then wet the line really good. Then instead of sinching it down really tight just pull it snug and leave a 1/4" tag on it. Haven't had it break in like a year!!
Sam Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 Sam....I know you use the Fish N Fool knot for mostly braid, but have you had any problems using it with mono, floro, or a hybrid line? thanks in advance.... I haven't used the Fish N Fool knot on other lines. I only fish with PowerPro braid or monofilament, and with mono I use the improved clinch knot. As someone here said, I can tie that one in my sleep. The reason I tie the Palomar and now Fish N Fool with superbraid lines like FireLine and PowerPro is that those lines will cut themselves off with an improved clinch knot.
steveearle Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 I tie the improved clinch for mono and fluoro. Check out tackle tour and their flurocarbon showdown part 1 & 2. The palomar usually does not fair as well as some others. I tie the Uni on braid for no slip and a double Uni to connect lines (reel backing to fresh fluoro, etc). Tied the snell for heavy flipping with braid...Lot of practice to get it perfect... Also, this is cool..to learn knots http://www.animatedknots.com/indexfishing.php
