OzarkFishman Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 I recently bought a Shimano Bantom Curado from a fellow Ozark Angler. It is an older model (7 or 8 years old). I am going to make this reel my flipping/pitching and carolina rig reel. I am wanting to know what you all would recommend when it comes to line. I was planning on putting 30 or 50 pound PowerPro on. A recent topic has me questioning this decision. Since this is an older model, I don't know how well it will handle the braid. Another option would be to spool up with 20 pound flourocarbon or P-Line Floroclear (My preferred line for everything else). What do you all recommend? Thanks in advance for any responses, OzarkFishman
Wayne SW/MO Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 I have four of those reels, all still active, and three have braid on them. I don't have anything larger than 20# on any of them, but 30# shouldn't hurt them and in fact may be a little better because of the larger diameter. I don't Caroline like I used to, but I wouldn't do it without using braid. Between the read you get and the ability to turn some rocks over and free up a snag makes braid the way to go in my opinion. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Dutch Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 I have several Curados dating back more than 10 years. I have braid on all of them except 1. Those old reels are workhorses. The old cranks 3.8:1 have been going for over $200 @ and sometimes as much as $300. I only keep mono on one for jerkbaits and grubs.
OzarkFishman Posted February 12, 2010 Author Posted February 12, 2010 Thanks for the replies. I think I will go with 30# Power Pro. OzarkFishman
