Members South Arkansas Jason Posted February 23, 2010 Members Posted February 23, 2010 Hello I am planning a fishing trip to North Arkansas in Early April (1st-6th). My current plan is to try and spending between 2-3 days on the Buffalo River to do some small mouth fishing. I am looking for advice on where I can launch and what businesses offer shuttle services. (I have a 14' flat with a 20hp and electric motor). Recently I spent some time online and I am trying to figure out what section I should go to? From what I read the upper portion is lower and the lower portion has more water? Does the lower portion offer better fishing since the water levels are higher? I recently moved from south Louisiana to southern Arkansas and this will be my first chance to catch a small mouth, I am very excited. Any advice you can offer is appreciated. Also if anyone knows of any fishing guides that work in this area that would help, I am currently considering hiring a guide for a day. Jason
Zack Hoyt Posted February 23, 2010 Posted February 23, 2010 Welcome Jason. I am pretty sure the Buffalo has a 10hp limit on the water. Alot depends on the water level of the river at the time of your trip. The regs they instituted on the Buffalo ahve helped the fish population alot. There are a handful of outfitters at each section, so renting a canoe and shutteling are not hard to do. I believe Erbie is as high as you can take a motored boat, but I would be suprised if you could get one up that far. Zack Hoyt OAF Contributor Flies, Lies, and Other Diversions
bobber Posted February 23, 2010 Posted February 23, 2010 Zack is right with the 10 hp limit, motors are allowed below eurbie . the buffalo is basically canoe river! the only motor boats that i have heve seen on the river are in the lower ends of the river, woolum and below that. other than the RANGERS on rescue outtings. check out ... floatthebuffalo.com <*)))))))>< * AMERICAN CANOE ASSOCIATION CERTIFIED CANOE, and SWIFT WATER RESCUE INSTRUCTOR.*

gotmuddy Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 I am going to start fishing the lower buffalo heavily in the next few weeks and I work with a bunch of people that fish it and guide. If you wanna go shoot me a email. All the trout docks rent boats for around 75 a day that you can take up the river everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
