Gavin Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 Night fishing can be good at times...Streamers, rapala's, and stuff that wakes in the surface film..Mouse patterns, etc. Should be a lot of caddis activity that time of year. Usually some good egg laying flights around dusk...Usually size 16, but bring some 18's, 14's, & 12's.

Caddis should be thick, and dead-drifting big nymphs like Pat's rubberlegs through the runs can be productive. Swinging softhackles is productive, too. As for night fishing, swinging dark-colored streamers would likely be the most productive. Feel free to go as big as you want. Members streamcreeper Posted February 28, 2010 Members Posted February 28, 2010 Dont forget to bring the large Y2K unweighted.. ive heard huge fish feeding out there at night that sounded like rocks getting thrown into the water. the full moon might play a nice role in some night fishing. release fish, preserve the outdoors

Gavin Posted February 28, 2010 Posted February 28, 2010 Oddly enough...I never do well at night if the moon is up...needs to be clear so you can fish by starlight, but the moon seems to put em off. Cheers.
Chris Gates Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 I would have some shop vac nymphs in size 14 and some 12 to 14 princes. Midge larva patterns are very productive still. I am fishing the Shop Vac as a Caddis Pupa. Like Gavin said have some 16 & 18 Elk Hairs or similar caddis dries. Good luck, most importantly try to stay away from the crowd, this will help. Do what others aren't doing and you will have more luck, imho.

fozzie. Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 I was down last week- only a few caddis out. Lots of little pale-yellow mayflies were coming off when the clouds were overhead. Pretty sure I saw one very lonely Hendrickson (about a #14, dark gray body, solid gray/slate colored wings). Caught a couple on Elk Hair Caddis, X-Caddis, cracklebacks, and caddis emergers. Several more took dead-drifting and swinging mohair leeches and buggers, size 6 and 8. Friend caught one on a Pat's rubberlegs. Another friend caught one on a cricket imitation. A few hits on San Juan worms, caddis pupae, and small pheasant tail nymphs (16-18). Overall it was fairly slow, and very few consistently rising fish. Tom.
ozark trout fisher Posted March 19, 2010 Posted March 19, 2010 It's been good for me this year on Hare's Ears, Eggs, Woollies, and Prince Nymphs under an indicator. I've also gotten a few on an Elk Hair Caddis, but nymphing has been best for me. I'm headed down tommorrow and will give a report.
