GREENTRITON Posted February 28, 2010 Posted February 28, 2010 Do you think benefit bass tournaments are a thing of the past? Back 10-15 years ago there were lots of tournaments to pick from, I am not talking Central Pro am or Heartland. Just benefit tournaments were you pay your money go fish and have fun hope to place and mabey get a draw prize. Back in 1981 or so I fished several tournaments with 250 to 300 hundred boats. Always went to the boat shows and found entry forms all over, no more. I guess the benefit tours went out, just like the 8-track player.. Thanks
techo Posted February 28, 2010 Posted February 28, 2010 We fish a few every year. The Cops for Kids is te first Tuesday in May, there is a Fish for Sight April 24th on Truman, and a bunch on LOZ. I am not sure where they are all listed. I usually get fliers in the mail. Tim Carpenter

GREENTRITON Posted March 1, 2010 Author Posted March 1, 2010 Was just thinking about Table Rock, not a lot of Benefit tournaments anymore. Compared to the 1980-1990...
Bill P Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 April 24 Purple Heart Veterans. Sunshine Beach. I'm sure they're still lookin for a few more boaters. Only 3 hrs of fishing...with a Purple Heart Veteran. Not a big thing, but a good one. No entry fee. Last year 1st,2nd,3rd, pd $400,300,200, in gift cert, for Bass Pro. Boater and vet both. Each boater recd $100 gift cert. I don't know what it will be this year, and I didn't know what it was last year till it was over. It's pretty much a volunteer thing, and I really enjoyed it.
focused fishing Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 I think there are a few factors: 1) Much larger number of tournament series around now than in 80' - 90's 2) Traditionally the payback in charity events was low, given the entry fee a guy can fish a series event and win more money against a smaller field. 3) Bass clubs supported and put on these events and with club numbers dwindling they could not continue to put them on. Just my two cents......
