Members solus_vero Posted March 3, 2010 Members Posted March 3, 2010 I have a couple questions I'm hoping someone can answer for me. I've been reading the "Sportsman's connection Missouri fishing Map Guide" (bought at Bass Pro shop for $25.00,, worth every dime!) and I'd like to fish Fellows lake near Springfield sometime this summer but there is a 40h boat motor restriction. I'd like to use my bass boat but it has a 115h motor on it. My questions are, 1- Can I take my boat with the 115h on it but just use the trolling motor and not even start the big motor? (I'll probably end up calling someone to find out for sure, but, I'm not sure who to call.) 2- Is the fishing in Fellows lake even worth the trouble? Thanks for any help anyone can give me. FishinCricket Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 I'll loan you my 5 horse Briggs and Stratton.. (I have no idea how to answer your question... Now gets some sleep, there's fish to be caught tomorrow buddy!) Now who's gonna give me and my man Solus the skinny on this fellows lake? Is he gonna hafta wait til I got time to haul the John boat down there? cricket.c21.com
Members Badpuma Posted March 3, 2010 Members Posted March 3, 2010 NO they will not allow you to use your boat on Fellows lake. The fishing is crappie, bass, catfish is generally good. The lake gets really clear so blue bird skies and no wind makes it really tuff. And they have some big toothey creatures.
soggyfeet Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 Some lakes allow you to use the big motor to load and unload and others make you take the prop off to y=use the boat on motor restricted lakes. I dont know any thing about Fellows lake but I knwo that my neighborhood lake (more like a pond)limit 25hp they let you use bigger motors to load and unload. Sounds like Badpuma knows but it wouldn't hurt to call someone. Brian
Wayne SW/MO Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 No and not unless its a lot closer than some of the other lakes. I haven't fished it a lot, but if you read the reports, it seems to be not bad, but not great either. I suspect one of the reasons they don't allow you to use your electric is safety, it and Springfield are to big guarantee that a few people won't fall short and claim safety as the reason for firing up the big one. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Dutch Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 I was told that Spfd police are the ones that now oversee the legality of boats on Fellows and Spfd lake. They are totally restricted to 40 and 6 hp respectively. You can not even launch a boat with a bigger motor attached to it unless you want to take a chance on a citation.

Have they dropped the watchmen service or is this in addition too? Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Dutch Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 Have they dropped the watchmen service or is this in addition too? I don't have any first hand knowledge since my unit is too big for either of those ponds. I use to launch and use the tmotor but not any more. I just go to the big ponds.
Members solus_vero Posted March 5, 2010 Author Members Posted March 5, 2010 UPDATE - After a wonderful day of trout fishing with My good friend Fishing Cricket (Thanks again FC !!), we drove by Fellows lake just to take a look around. WoW ! It's been a long time since I seen that many regulation signs ! Don't get me wrong,it is a beautiful lake, if you can see around all the signs, lol. First of all you have to buy a yearly boat launch tag ($25.00), there is a slot limit on the bass, you can't fish the southern arm of the lake after 1:00 (something to do with the ducks) and you have to be off the water before dark. I understand the need to keep the lake clean and pollution free (After all, it is a water source for ALLOT of people) and it looked to me like it would be a gret lake to sail or take a good jon boat out with the kids for a day, but, if your wanting to do some fishing without big brother breathing down your neck, I think it would be better to hit a bigger lake. I'm hitting LOZ this Saturday to stretch out the legs on my Nitro for the first time this year. Looks like it's going to be a beautiful weekend. Here's wishing everyone a productive and safe year on the water. . Solus_vero ,,,,,,,,,,,,, Latin for - " Only The Truth"
