Hey guys,

All my life I have been a clear water river fisherman going after smallmouth, walleye, brim and goggle eyes. To sum it up quick, I suck on the big lakes. I have a boat with a fish finder(not that I am any good reading it). I more rods and reels than that law alows, but everything is set up for bass fishing. I know I have stuff that will work for crappie, but not sure about whites.

I just need some advice on where to go, when to start, what every angler going after these types have in their possession, and any pointers one could give me. when time comes I'll take anyone that can put me on the fish and it could be a free gas trip for them.

Boat has a 115hp motor on it so I don't know if that is allowed on the james or not when the whites start.

I am pretty sure I could figure out fishing the james, but tablerock is really my weakness, and could use a lot of help. Any advice, or cool fishing partners would be awesome.

White bass are like a group of teenage boys. They will do anything and don't stay in one place very long. When active they will hit like their black cousins will hit anything that moves. There are no right or wrong baits just baits that work at different depths. I have caught them on stuff as small as 1/80 oz and as large as Zara Spooks.

Good baits to have along are: jigging spoons in a couple of sizes, bucktail jigs in several sizes and colors, grubs with several sizes of jig heads as well as a few inline spinners and some lipless cranks.

White, chartreuse and silver are standard colors but anything under the rainbow will work on some days.

When you refer to the James and your motor, anything goes below Springfield lake if the water is deep enough for you to run. I have been to Galena with a 225 when the water was up.

Go to bass-pro today 3/6/10 and watch Rick Flint talk about crappie, from 10-noon. He and Darrell Jones (speaks next Sunday,3/14/10 from 10-noon) are the crappie kings.

Take a note book and take notes.

Try to get a seat up front. His seminars move quickly and he give lots of excellent advice.

After seeing his seminar last year. And using his advice, crappie are no longer a accident for me when I catch them.

OK with that jet learn where Rolly Blunks or McCord Bend are at Galena. You can launch there and go up or down.
