Members kux99 Posted March 7, 2010 Members Posted March 7, 2010 Has anyone fished the Kinnickinnic River before in the area of River Falls, WI before? We are planning a trip up there in July sometime and would like some advice on what to bring. I will definately be bringing my 3wt. What assortment of flies should I take with me. I was reading that the river will be packed full of wild brooks and german browns, 8000-9000 fish per mile. Any good places to camp up there close to there? Any thoughts and suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted March 7, 2010 Root Admin Posted March 7, 2010 Hummm.... sounds interesting.; I may be taking a trip to WI in August with a couple of friends. Never been to WI fishing so I'll be watching to see what kind of response you get. Thanks.
TroutFearMe Posted March 7, 2010 Posted March 7, 2010 Hey Kux I don't know much about the river but my little brother lives up in the twin cities and is actually heading over there to fish today when he gets back I will get a report from him and pass it on, better yet I will have him join OA and give you the update himself.
Members kux99 Posted March 8, 2010 Author Members Posted March 8, 2010 That is awesome. I am looking forward to getting some information.
TroutFearMe Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 Hey Kux I talked to my little brother last night unfortunatly he is have comp problem so he couldn't get on last night so I grill him for info is he is what he had to say, "The upper Kinni SUCKED" he has fished a couple of times up there and did well but said the uppper portion is full of silt right now but will clear out as the season progresses he said there is no camping in the area but you can camp on the Willow River. He also said there is a couple places down stream that he is going to check out later in the week. The fly selection he uses in July are small trico's, sparkle dunns, pink squirels, and a few other nymp patterns, once he gets his comp working he is going to start post fishing reports here.
Members Benjamin Posted March 9, 2010 Members Posted March 9, 2010 Kux99 Im TroutFearMe's brother and he told me about your post. What i have learned about the kinni in july is that the fish are finicky but usually what works is sparkle duns, black tricos, partridge & greens, hares ears, and prince nymphs. Yeah there is A LOT of naturally reproducing browns and a lot of places to access the river. There is Camping at Willow State Park...I dont know if there is any closer to the kinni....I can give you a couple of links to my fly shop here and another one in River Falls.
Members kux99 Posted March 10, 2010 Author Members Posted March 10, 2010 That would be great. Thank you for the info. Is the upper Kinni better than the lower? Which would you rather fish?
Members Benjamin Posted March 11, 2010 Members Posted March 11, 2010 That would be great. Thank you for the info. Is the upper Kinni better than the lower? Which would you rather fish? There both great...If you dont mind fishing around other people then the lower wouldnt be a problem. The upper you may run into one person the whole day. And here are the links for ya... http://www.bobmitchellsflyshop.com/streamreports.htm http://www.lundshardware.com/Services.html This link had a map to all the access points on the upper and lower kinni
