Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted May 21, 2006 Root Admin Posted May 21, 2006 They've been running more water the last couple of days than before. Not hard but it has broken the 906 mark- first time that's happened in a very long time. It hasn't been hard enough to "cleanze" the upper end or the moss banks along the edges of the lake down in our area but it has been enough to stir up some big trout. Some of the guides have been throwing stick baits above Fall Creek and catching some nice browns in the 20-24 inch range. I know of 6 keepers caught in the last 3 days- 2 just today. Unfortunaely, both were kept- a 22 and a 23 inch... but that's the way it goes. There are planty more. Jigs also have been catching bigger trout- 1/8th oz white, brown, black, olive and the best- sculpin worked off the bottom from the dam down past Fall Creek. Also with the water running, drifting a pink micro jig under a float 5-6 feet deep from Lookout down past the narrows- mid lake very good sucess. Red zebra midges still the best early in the am - lots of midge hatches and trout on the surface. Babler said he tore them up on dry flies this am before the sun got up too high in the sky. Rolan said he had his best day of the week yesterday fishing a zebra under an indicator 10 inches and right up against the bluff bank below Lookout. Crank baits should be real good downlake too. There are a ton of creek chubs in the moss beds along the banks all up and down the lake- prime places for browns to prey. I haven't yet but was going to experiment with some creek-chub looking baits for browns- and bass. We still are seeing bass in the trout cam. Live baits- minnows are good for browns, night crawlers for rainbows. Best areas are around Short Creek- below Fall Creek and from Cooper to Monkey Island.
