Gavin Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 Laker's tip about visualization is key. You should always try to see or visualize what your fly is doing under the water. Polarized glasses are a must. Fish can hit and spit w/o affecting the indicator or you feeling the hit, and that probably happens more often than not. Fish the water close to you first, add a couple feet of line to the cast and try again, adjust weight, and/or change indi depth if needed. If you arent adding and removing shot and/or adjusting your your indi often, you arent fishing effectively. Cheers.
Members jwpage Posted March 10, 2010 Author Members Posted March 10, 2010 Thanks for all of the wise input. I especially like the advice of lifting your fly rod 45 degrees above the water and following the line down. That seems to be a way of detecting strikes without an indicator or "thingamabobber". LOL. I really appreciate all of the advice. John "The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope." John Buchan
Members kdan Posted March 10, 2010 Members Posted March 10, 2010 Gee, Gavin and Laker you all sound pretty savy on the no indicator. I say you are "right on" with your information. I can't add anything, so hope you injoy your new found chanlenge, its great.
Zach Bearden Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 Okay, this isn't really something I can explain through text but I'll give it a shot. Fishing without an indicator can be pretty rough sometimes. It takes plenty of practice and patience. You will miss a lot of fish when you first start out. In slower water I really like to grease the first 5 foot of my fly line, cast up stream with a single nymph, watch the tip and when it ticks set the hook. There are tons of ways to nymph without the bobber but I hate explaining things through text. Next time you come down tell me and maybe we can get together and I'll show you a few ways. Just send me a message. "Its clearly Bree time baby!" Member: 2009 U.S. Youth Fly-Fishing Team. Competed Czech Republic. 7th Place Team Member: 2010 U.S. Youth Fly-Fishing Team.
