timsfly Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 Water at the park is still murky and above normal, but it is clearing a bit everyday, and the water level makes for some good nymph and woolybugger fishing. The hatches are still good, caddis, blue wing olives, midges, and some sulphurs are showing up everyday, beetles and ants are starting to do well again the hotter and more windy it is the better for ants and beetles. Small zebra midges and red hots are still working well as are pheasant tails, scuds and hares ears. Caddis nymphs such as the burlap are a good choice everday. Over 1600 kids showed up for Kids free fishing day on the 20th, it was a blast, lots of happy kids and parents on saturday, the hatchery put a lot of fish out about every hour or so, so there were fish for the kids to catch all day long. thanks for all the donatios from Lucky Strike, go fishin, lucky lady trout worms and sportsman's supply, the kids put all the stuff to good use Marabou jigs and Roaring river Specials in olive, white and lt. tan worked best all week, 1/32nd and 1/16th worked best. Plastic worms are a good choice right now, cheese yellow, mint green, white, and orange/white were the best colors all week. Power eggs in white, hatch brown, and flo. orange were good all weekend. Roostertails, the ole 30 minute wonders produced well all weekend, skunk, black, and the frog green worked the best. 1/16th of an ounce worked the best. The water is still murky so you can still get away with the 3lb maxima but 2lb is still best, the thing most people still aren't doing is adding enough weight to the line to get the eggs and worms down to the bottom where the trout are waiting. If you were fishing in zone 3 then corn, night crawlers and meal worms worked best. Good luck. wily Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 Thanks for the heads-up about kid's day this past weekend. My wife and I took our two sons, both are preschoolers, and we had a great time. We didn't get to the park until about noon but we were still able to catch a few fish, and attend a couple of the programs. We spent some time on the jungle gym. Our oldest boy is budding naturalist, so we went wading and caught small minnows and frogs. The 2 year old fell into the water. He bent down to pick something up off the creek bottom and lost his balance. He fell forward and was completely under water. He wasn't in any danger but he sure got a cold suprise. We had a great time. Thanks again.
