Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted March 13, 2010 Root Admin Posted March 13, 2010 Is there such a thing as hiking along the Buffalo, say for 4 days, and getting a shuttle to the end of the hike? Anyone done it? Suggestions? Thanks
DD'sMC Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 Although I haven't ever done a 4-day hike, I have done a 3-day float on the Buffalo. Are you planning on fishing along the way? The best fishing for me was from Ponca to Kyle's Landing. Again, have only floated not hiked it. It's a good hike into Hemmed in Hollow witgh the waterfall, and also the Goat Trail on Big Bluff. Here's an informative link River Map. Lost Valley Canoe or Buffalo Outdoor Center may be able to provide shuttle service for a nominal fee. Good luck and keep us posted. We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give. The two best times to go fishing? When it is raining and when it is not.

Zack Hoyt Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 Pick up a copy of "The Buffalo River Handbook" by Ken Smith. Besides being a good friend, Ken is also one of the most knowledgeable people in regards to the BNR. The books has all trails and floats as well as geology and geography information. He has also went through and talked to all the old timers and has compiled alot of the history into this little book. I have most every book out about the BNR and I would put this at #1 no questions asked. Zack Hoyt OAF Contributor Flies, Lies, and Other Diversions
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted March 15, 2010 Author Root Admin Posted March 15, 2010 Ordered it on Amazon- thanks!
steve l Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 Lilley, please post how the trip was if you end up going. My wife & I took up backpacking last year (the Gila Natl wilderness & the elusive Gila trout). This year is the Uintas range east of Salt Lake City (brooks, cuts and perhaps grayling). But we have seen the Buffalo trail and are curious as to how it is as far as scenery & general appeal. It's close enough that it might be worthwhile over a 4-day weekend. Well, maybe 4 and a half...
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted March 16, 2010 Author Root Admin Posted March 16, 2010 I'm actually not taking the trip. A couple of friends are and I was checking it out for them. But I will report back after their trip.
