Mark Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 My friends and I have been discussing trying to walleye fish from Riverton on downstream. We really don't know much about how to walleye fish, but have heard there are walleye below Riverton. We have talked about getting Mike Jones from Hufstedler's to guide us. I have talked to Mike about it before and he suggested large spoons and large lures. Any suggestions? Is there a specific time of year when the walleye fishing is better than other times? Has anyone had particularly good luck walleye fishing? Or is it a case where there are walleye in the Eleven Point but they are few and far between?
jdmidwest Posted March 19, 2010 Posted March 19, 2010 Walleye crashed for some reason about 10 years ago and the fishing is few and far between for them. Mike would be the guy to find you some if there are any left. The previous owner of 11pt canoe was a excellent Walleye guide also, but I think he has long retired. Spring River in Arkansas has a good supply of them if you want to try it. We always pick some up there, just not the pigs like we used to find on the Point. White jigs and tubes work too, as do minnows. Trolling crankbaits is productive. I have never caught any on a spoon. Fish the deep holes and early morning, late evening is most productive. Night fishing is good too if you know the river good enough to run it in the dark. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
