I was in Dicks Sporting Goods in the West County Mall in St. Louis a couple days ago, and noted that they have two of the Old Town Discovery 119 solo canoes in stock. I know that at various times a couple of people here have been in the market for one, and don't remember if everybody who was interested found one.

The Disco 119, while not the best solo fishing craft on the market, is WELL worth the $400 price tag. 12 feet long, weighs 40 some odd pounds, and the seat needs to be moved forward to make it feel more stable and track better. If you're a big person, say more than 220 pounds or so, it might be a little too small for you. But otherwise, if you're interested in a very serviceable solo canoe at a good price, you might check it out.

At the lower price point, I can't think of anything else that has as much value as far as a solo rig.

I wish I had gotten in on the "Kay-Noe" thing when it was available. Basically a Disco for about 3 bills, sure can't beat that. Save some wear and tear on the old Pack when portaging isn't an issue.

They are nice little canoes, although having one for 2 years now I wish it was 2 feet longer. Get rid of the molded seat, it is very uncomfortable.

Yep, two feet longer and it would be perfect...of course it wouldn't be $400 anymore, either. I also wish it was Royalex, but again that would raise the pricetag considerably. The molded seat isn't bad if you drop the rear of it a couple inches. Mine's quite comfortable after some mods. It's a good bargain canoe for those on a budget...like me.

SmallmouthJoe~ Not sure how long ago you bought it, but BPS will do price matching, if you JUST got it you might be able to get them to make up the difference, cant hurt to try.

Good idea but it has been about two months so I don't know if they would still match. Thanks for the idea, I always forget that they will do price matching.

I got a Guide 147 @ Dicks for $399.98 a few years back ($430 after taxes). Sometimes they have just crazy steals on stuff like that. you can almost always find some sort of coupon for that place too. I do most of my shopping at Bass Pro for tackle, seem to forget about Dick's most of the time.

That's the deal of the century right there. You almost have to buy one at that price.
