trizkid Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 was down with a couple buddies for the begining of the week and had a great time. weather all but sunday morning, was great. I am already sunburnt and its was march. fishing was pretty good the whole trip, sunday the water was up and flowing a bit and off color..but we still caught fish, mostly on the 88 or a glo bug...figured that be easy for em to see. We fished out side the park, either at tan vat or walked out from the park, everyday for a couple of hour. Outside the park down stream at the boulders i had a very big brown chase down a streamer but did not take it. Also yesterday morning we went to walk down out side the park to the boulders form the park and ran in the a very rude guy(s). After walking down on the bank up to the waste pond I walked down to the water. i see four or five guys fishing different holes on the first part of stream there down by the private property and imeditatly this guys starts running is mouth, " its getting pretty tight in here eh", he proceeds to tell us how we need to go bout navagating the stream and the whole time making rude comments. He also tells us he feels likes hes in the %%%%%% park again. that was my fourth day in a row down there never had any problems, then this guy thinks he owns the place. It angered all of us, we get maybe 10 days a year to go down and fish montauk/currrent and it kinda sucks when u go down and get hasseled by some guy. anyway if ur a part of this forum buddy and u read this ...just wanted to let u know how cool u r man or think u r . ...........and last , we did fish the c&r for a little while and i got in a 17-18 brown and a 22 inch rainbow....i know its just the C&R but still great fun. fished the flys only at the end of the day on wed and caught a decent amount on green zebra or green scud....will post pics as soon as buddys load them on my ftp. flyfishmaster Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 Trizkid, Nice report. Don't let those knuckleheads get to you. I'm sure he was runnin' his mouth just to show off to his buddies that he was the "top dog". On a side note, did you hear any banjos playing? Back to fishin, how were the stream conditions. According to the charts the stream appears to be running a bit high. Later, FFM Woo Hoo Fish On!!
Gavin Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 Its aways unfortunate when you run into a knucklehead on the river. Sounds like a good trip anyway, thanks for the report.

Sounds like nice fishing, despite the rude guy. I can personally attest to the fact that is not the first rude fisherman that's fished the Current I caught a 22 incher in the C&R area this winter. Same fish maybe.
trizkid Posted April 2, 2010 Author Posted April 2, 2010 stream condtions improved everyday i was down there...sunday it was high and off color but still fishable, and it just got better from there on. by wed afternoon it was perfect i would say not to clear not to murked still a lil high and fast flow. ya i didnt let that guy get to me much but its just stupid to act like that...everyones down there for the same reason their love of trout fishing and theres deff enough room for everyone to have a good day on the water...no need to be rude to everyone who happens to come ur way. Randall Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 Hey man, I was down there Monday through Wednesday too, camped at site 306, but I only fished from tan-vat down to Ashley creek, not upstream. I was the tall guy in the Simms waders and a hip pack. I think I ran into the same rude guy on Wednesday morning at tan vat and he was a prick. He made the same comment about it being crowded and then proceeded to low-hole me until I dropped way below him and fished the bluff hole. The best part was that I talked to everybody I saw parked at tan vat and Baptist for those three days and Wednesday was the first time I saw him or his truck. Everybody else was really easy to get along with too. I think the high water made the fishing better than I'm used to. The cloudy water probably slowed the bite but the high water made the fish a lot less skittish and more aggressive. I didn't have much luck on streamers either, though I tore them apart on bigger nymphs and talked to a really nice couple who did well swinging soft-hackles and the like. I caught this lady right below Baptist Monday afternoon. Special thanks to the math teacher from Minnesota for netting her in the stiff current and taking the picture for me. Cute animals taste better.
Nortrad Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 Beautiful brown! It seems the fish are bigger this year, hopefully from everyone releasing or mostly releasing. Off-color water is the best IMO, clear water really tries your skills. Still got a couple of weeks until I can come down. It's great when a fellow angler will help you out with landing a fish.

I've noticed that too, the last few trips. I've been catching fewer fish than last year, but the sizes are definitely larger. I'm wondering if last seasons wet/cool conditions provided more optimal conditions and better growth. I guess we'll see... Tom.
