abkeenan Posted April 6, 2010 Posted April 6, 2010 Looks like the bass are still unwilling to cooperate down there somewhat and i was wondering if anyone had been out or had some success fishing for the good tasting crappie? Since it looks like the morning bite is the best option for the bass maybe someone is trying the crappie in the afternoon to fill the freezer/fryer. Will be down there Fri afternoon through Sunday afternoon. Hope to see you guys out there. Thanks in advance fellas. -Brett
Hogfan Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 I'm kind of curious about the crappie myself. I get to fish with my grandpa on Friday and these days that don't happen enough. We'll have a good time whether their biting or not but it sure would be nice to put a few in the livewell! We did try them a couple weeks ago up Big & Little Indian and we couldn't find them. We weren't using minnows and we fished pretty shallow so maybe we were jumping the gun a little on the shallow bite.
Members fish4fun Posted April 7, 2010 Members Posted April 7, 2010 fished all day for crappie yesterday past Bridgeport. No crappie on the banks, water was 62 degrees and the wind was wicked. Caught short, really short crappie in 9-15 foot of water on white and chartreuse jigs.

Most were shallow 3 to 4 ft. on the bank one was 15'' weight 2 lb. several 12'' to 13''. Caught most on minnows some on 1/6 oz. white or chartreuse jig. There was alot of buck brush in water then dont know now. Got a bass tournament this sat. or I would be back up there. Hope this helps.

Fished April 3rd-5th, ran way up the Kings river and were catching crappie in 20 foot of water casting toward the bank. We caught about 30-40 a day but we fished pretty hard. Only color they would hit was a white marabou jig 1/16th ounce. Anywhere you can find brush in 20 foot of water or a big lay down, you should find em. We caught lots of shorts but managed a good stringer of keepers for the freezer with a couple really nice slabs. You really just have to try a lot of different places because we only found a hand full of spots that they were biting well at. Most of the banks we fished turned up nothing but then you would get into em once you found a good submerged tree or laydown. It's a shame how much the lake has changed over the years. Coves that I used to fish as a kid that were just full of cedar trees now have virtually none in them. All broken off, or eroded away over the years. Crappie fishing on T-rock isn't like it used to be 10 years ago thats for sure. Anyways good luck!
