DaddyO Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 I'm thinking about fishing Roaring River on Tuesday. What flies should I have in my arsenal? Is the fishing below the park any good? DaddyO We all make decisions; but, in the end, our decisions make us.

duckydoty Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 I'm thinking about fishing Roaring River on Tuesday. What flies should I have in my arsenal? Is the fishing below the park any good? Fished Wed, Thurs, and Friday there and did real well on size 16 bead head pheasant tails. Take a few dry flies also. There are some good hatches coming off in the afternoon. Bwo's in 16 and 18 worked great. Also if you like stripping streamers take a 12 ft. sinking leader and some white mink streamers in size 10. Killed them on that in the fly fishing area. The streamers would not get deep enough just using a floating line and the sinking leader really made them turn on! We caught a few on egg patterns and san juan worms too. Black and olive micro jigs caught a few for my wife. Hope some of that helps and good luck! A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! Visit my website at.. Ozark Trout Runners
DaddyO Posted April 12, 2010 Author Posted April 12, 2010 DD, Thanks for the feedback. I'll tie some up! DaddyO We all make decisions; but, in the end, our decisions make us.
On The Fly 6 Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 I fished there today and wasn't very productive this time around. I saw lots of people catching fish consistently, I just wasn't one of them. Went by Tims and grabbed a few beetles and elk hairs, but everywhere I wanted to use them was crowded. Maybe next time I'll ask to fish in the stocking pools . Good luck DaddyO! DaddyO Posted April 14, 2010 Author Posted April 14, 2010 Well, Dad and I fished Roaring River yesterday. Not very crowded on a Tuesday, it was great! We caught lots of fish. At first, I couldn't get them to hit the same thing twice. I caught 1 on a #16 Olive thread midge, 1 on a Pink Chenille egg, 1 on a Pheasant Tail and 1 on a Hendrickson Dry fly. I think that I could have caught more on the Hendrickson but I snapped it off and it was the only one that I had. I switched to a Black and Copper Zebra midge and caught several fish and then they shut down. So, I switched to my Hair and Copper (goto fly) and it was game on for the rest of the day. I caught 1 brown, that I should've taken a picture of because of how pretty it was, and the rest were fat and feisty rainbows with the biggest fish being around 2 lbs. Overall, it was a great day. DaddyO Posted April 15, 2010 Author Posted April 15, 2010 So, the fly that was most productive was a hares ear and copper john, or is it something else? No. It is a Hair and Copper fly. It's a play on words. It is tied like the Hare and Copper http://www.flyguysoutfitting.com/Hareandcoppersbs.html I call it a Hair and Copper instead of Hare and Copper because I don't tie it using Hare's mask. I use some dark brown dubbing that I made, I don't use the lead wrap because I am using a Tungsten bead and I use a Scud Hook instead of the straight shanked Nymph Hook. I think that I've posted a picture of it on one of my other topics. If you can't find the pictue, Let me know and I'll post another one. I'd post it now but I'm using my wife's computer right now. On The Fly 6 Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 Thanks for the info! What zone were you fishing in? DaddyO Posted April 19, 2010 Author Posted April 19, 2010 Most of the fish were caught at the end of Zone 2. We parked in the parking lot by the old dam and worked our way upstream and then back downstream. DaddyO We all make decisions; but, in the end, our decisions make us.
