polock Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 Never have been white fishing. I finally brought my little boat over, I am looking to head out on the james on a nice day this week. Do they usually bite better at dawn or the evening? I don't have many jigs so what should I get for tackle. Do they bite anything white that is usually used for smallies? I am going to pull up a James river map, where is a good place to put in and go from? Where can I find limit and keeping regulations? Sorry guys for my stupidity, but I have never went after this type of fish. Any advice will be helpful. Do you float the middle of the river and cast the banks like if you were smallmouth river fishing? I am taking another buddy with me and he has never fished them either. When we go, my little boat is black with a silver and maroon stripe on it with a white 40hp johnson jet on the back. feel free if you see us out to point and laugh, then give us some pointers .
duckydoty Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 The last reports that I've heard is they are still around Blunk hole and on up. Taylor shoals might be a good spot to try. Blunk rd is off 248 just out side Galena. Take it down to the river and there is a boat launch there. Go up stream from there till you find the other boats. That is where the whites will be. For spinning gear I would throw 1/8th ounce jig heads with 3 inch white/pearl swimming minnows or sliders. The limit is 15 whites per person per day. Some people anchor in the middle and throw to the bank and some anchor on the side and throw to the middle. Early morning and late afternoon/evening are both good bites. Parking will get crowded down there so you may want to plan for that and get there super early in the morning or around 1 p.m. to fish the evening bite. Hope you get into some! Members bajacoop Posted April 11, 2010 Members Posted April 11, 2010 we had the best luck bouncing jigs off the bottom as we floated down. You do get hung up a fair amount but this seemed to work better than casting and cranking back in.
polock Posted April 12, 2010 Author Posted April 12, 2010 kindof like if you were beebopin for walleye?
