I had to head up to Kansas City this past weekend for a wedding, and the co-owner of my boat is at Lake of the Ozarks, so I headed to my buddy's pond to fish on Friday morning. Caught a bunch of fish, but this one was the nicest. Sorry I couldn't get a better pic but managing a big fish and a digital camera isn't easy, especially for a terrible multi-tasker such as myself. These pics don't quite do it justice. Caught it on a 10" power worm, green/red. My scale said 6.25#.

That is my favorite type of fishing. I have been white bass fishing and hitting the Finley lately, but farm pond fishing beats it all. I plan on going to my favorite ponds in 2 weeks.

One thing I have noticed is that ponds seem to hold better quality towards Clinton and further up to Kansas City. There is better soil there and our weather is similar, so I think it has to do with nutrients levels in the water. Obviously if you go too far North, you run into smaller largemouth because of the shorter growing season (big ones are everywhere, just not as often).

Good catch,

Grew up fishing a pond on the 40 acres we owned. Caught fish any time, any day with a variety of tackle I would not even think of using today. Seeing this picture makes me remember what that used to be like. Great catch, thanks for the pic!

I am in the KC area. This reminds me that I really need to get out and make friends with a few more farmers with nice looking ponds on their land. The public parks here seem to get hammered all year long. I need to find a nice little private lake to get my float tube wet occasionally on the weekends or after work.

Great thing about a farm pond is catching the same danged fish twice in one day!
