Kyle Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 Fished in the Tailrace this weekend. They ran little water and it was tough. We only caught a few fish, but they were quality. On Saturday, my buddy caught 2 crappie (11",10"). I caught 4 crappie (12",11",11",10") one white (12"), one hybrid (4.5-5 pounds, 22", The biggest one I have ever caught and I can't wait to hook into a 10+ pounder), and one Spoonbill (just under 20 pounds I would guess and about 36", what a powerful fish!). That is it. No other fish all weekend, no shorts or anything. We need some rain so they will start running water and really get the bite going. You couldn't ask for a much nicer weekend though, beautiful weather. A little tip for anyone heading that way. Don't wait until 10 at night to try to get a hotel in Warsaw. Everyone room in town was full and we wound up sleeping in the car. Cheeper, but way less comfortable. Kyle
emjay Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 Nice report Kyle. I got nearly the same results as you. Couple hybrids and a few whites. I caught a ton of crappies for some reason though. No shorts at all, every single one topped over 10"+. And on another note...it looks like the topwater action is beginning to roll. Saw more than a few hybrids get pulled in on spooks. It was quite exciting watching a few guys getting their spooks blasted but no hookset. Too bad I only had my soft plastics with me
Seth Posted April 22, 2010 Posted April 22, 2010 Kyle....was it Saturday you tried to get a room? There was a Snagmasters tournament that day (I fished in it) and every place in Warsaw and nearby towns is usually booked up that weekend. Last year we were able to get a room at the Parkfield Inn the night before Snagmasters, but it was also the most expensive place in Warsaw and cost us $82 for one night. Us poor snaggers were parked next to the 08+ trucks and boats in the parking lots. I felt inferior LOL.
