Upper James?

does anyone bother fishing the upper james, like say around Sunshine and the 125? I see there's a lake there, is it accessible? how would an inflatable do in this area?

Not a bad area at all. The only problem you have now is getting access to the river. They closed the access at 125 and also at the old steel bridge south of Sunshine.

Not sure how the water is through there these days but I might have an answer for you next week.

I haven't done it this year, but I do the 125 to Lake Springfield float often. You'd be amazed how good fishing can be even further upstream, but access is spotty. I leave a vehicle at the Ramp on Lake Springfield (under 65 highway) and have someone drop me off at 125. It's a nice stretch for both Largemouths and Smallmouths.

so is there really no place to park north of Crighton? I don't ususally have the luxury of getting dropped off

No, not really. When I didn't have a good solo watercraft I'd usually just ask someone that lived close if I could park somewhere out of their way to fish the river. You'd be amazed how often you get the O.K. if you ask nice.
