Hunter91 Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 I had a very hard day yesterday down on Table Rock in all the storms fishing a tourney. I got soaked to the bone and cold. So, I wasn't really wanting to go fishing this afternoon after church but I had promised a friend of mine and his son that we would give it a try. Thinking we would be hard put to catch even a few after this front, we went anyway. I could not believe it! We fished from 230pm to 530pm. We started at the back of a cove and on my first cast I caught a keeper crappie. For the next three hours, the action was pretty constant. We caught over 40 fish. Bass, crappie, whites and walleye. We only had 21 keepers. 18 crappie between 10-14inches, one 15.5in walleye and 2 large whites. We fought the wind even in the semi protected cove. The fish were on the bank between 3-10 ft. We caught them all on the swimming minnow. Water temp showed 63 most of the time we were there. I am glad I didn't cancel today
nxs Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 Nice trip Hunter. Weather isn't so hard to handle if you're catching fish. We're planning on heading up Wed.
straw hat Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 Great trip. I also had a bad trip on Saturday. My regular spawning places near Hawker, CC and Roark are no longer producing many spawners. I was wandering if you caught those further north. Obviously I don't expect a specific location just a general idea how far north you were. I would appreciate the help.
Predator1 Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 Yeah Hunter nice job. You think all this rain this week will dirty up the water and stop the bite before the weekend.

I just finished looking at the web sites for the stream levels for both Sac rivers and Turnback. They never reached levels that my records indiate have caused mudiness at either CC or Aldrich in the past. In addition they are already dropping fast. I think we will be good to go any time. I am planning on taking a trip to the lake on Wednesday and will post a "Trip Report" when I get back.
Predator1 Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 I wish I could take off work. I don't get off work until 330pm M-F. I could call in sick Might could even get away with it. Hope you catch tons of fish. Do you guys night fish. I was thinking about it. Would a coleman latern work ok hanging above by 14'flat bottom?

What I have read suggests that the light needs to shine directly down into the water to be the most effective. I am sure there are guys on this site that know a lot more about this than me.

The lantern will work just fine. People fish like that all the time. It will put out enough light to see your bobbers and probably attract fish too. I like to use a submersable light, and then I wear a LED headlight so I can see well, has a red light option so it doesn't attract the bugs to your face also, nice. Good luck! Predator1 Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 Thanks for the tip. I like the submersible light idea. I know the mosquitoes are not bad right now but will be soon. I think the lantern would attract more. Do any of you think the Aldrich Bridge area and the little sac would be a good place to crappie fish right now or should I try somewhere else.

I've never had much luck near the Aldrich Bridge, some people do. I like to fish midway between Aldrich and Highpoint, lot's of good places in that area, gravel bars and submerged trees near shore. Or just put in at Highpoint, I have lots of luck fishing across from there this time of year. Turkey creek is usually pretty decent also.
