Gavin
Had fun this weekend...Bobber and I arrived at Sunburst on Friday afternoon, set camp, and caught a few fish around the Campground. Lots of rain Saturday night and a bit Sunday AM. Took a float from Kelly down to Sunburst...Got into fish right away and we had such steady action all day long. The weather was variable to say the least. We enjoyed everything from blue bird & sunny skies, light rain, heavy thunderstorms, and sunny with 30-40mph winds. It was just amazing how the fish would turn on when the weather changed a bit...Fish for 20 minutes with no action...change in the weather, and you would catch 2-3 in as many casts. I hooked a nice one at Cave Riffle around 3:30pm and I had a river runs through it moment..Went completely underwater while chasing it downstream, kept the rod high and came up with it still attached. We danced abit longer then she left me..along with my hat. Stripped down and paddle through 30-40mph gusts on the way to Sunburst. Bit more rain on Sunday night, but the river was still in good shape. Floated from Sunburst to James...again into fish right away, and we caught em all day long on the way down to the bridge. Black & Brown Pat's Rubberlegs with brown legs was the ticket. Smaller sizes caught, but the #4 was the ticket for about 80% of our fish. Big Bobber, about ten foot of leader, and one to four AAA's above your Pats and dropper and fish the softer water in the 5-6' depth range. Thanks to Justin & Amy for their fishing tips and hospitality. Cheers.

Gavin, You could have left the stripping part out. Sounds like an awesome time. Where there a lot of people on the river? later, FFM Woo Hoo Fish On!! Gavin
There were 2-3 groups of floaters on Saturday maybe 25 boats in total....Didnt seem to matter much......Ran into a group of 4-5 guys out in toons on the way to Patrick on Sunday. One guy in a green pontoon said hello but I couldnt remember his name... My bad...I'm lousy with names. They stopped at first island and flogged it well, looked like they had a fish on when I paddled through. Not crowded at all by NFoW standards. sean c
Hi Gavin, We were the pontoon group. The guy in the green pontoon name is Rob. He said he had tied flies with you before or met you at Hargroves I can't remember but he knew your name. I spotted a really big brown that still has me shaking at the first island but I couldn't catch him thats why we were there so long. It worked out though because my buddies did catch quite a few fish while waiting on me for an hour trying in vain to hook that bad boy. The weather was crazy all weekend and we experienced the same type of thing as far as the weather and the bite. I don't think we did quite as well as you guys but we all used the exact same rig brown Pat's with assorted weight and droppers. Can't wait to get back. Chris Gates
Glad to hear you had a great trip Gavin. I am heading down this Friday morning to Sunburst for 3 days of the good life. I appreciate the report, kind of confirms what I am expecting for this weekend. The fishing has been excellent down there the last few trips, hopefully it will be again this weekend.
