Members Trolling 4 Walleye Posted May 3, 2010 Members Posted May 3, 2010 I do quite a bit of online shopping, but rarely do i make huge purchases online. I've decided the model that meets my wants/desires is the Humminbird 998c Combo SI I need a transducer with this item and the inclusion of a transducer is what is key. This is the item at Cabela's - which is $1999 - the manufacturer's price on the item. Of course i also have to legally pay sales tax on this from this store. Online: Amazon has it for the same price, as do many other known retailers. But then.... some "off-name" retailers that i haven't heard of have it for quite a bit less: http://www.thedigitaloasis.com/Shop/Contro...248247248245250 - $1628 - WOW - and no sales tax due up front. Amazon Retailer Electronica Direct: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002QCY23...;pf_rd_i=507846 - $1720 These are huge savings.... but is it too good to be true? Is there something I'm missing here? The google checkout seller ratings on digital oasis were 4.5 stars.... electronica direct had pretty good feedback on amazon. I hate trying to save a couple hundy and have it bite me in the butt afterwards... is this too good to be true or just smart shopping?
Members stock jockey Posted May 3, 2010 Members Posted May 3, 2010 Over the winter I bought a new in the box, sealed 1197 for about $2200. It works great and paid no sales taxes. It has been the biggest purchase online ever. However, no regrets.
Gilly Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 Try these guys too, but call for pricing. I bought a 998combo, love it. Get Hot Maps when you can..... http://www.jandhproducts.com/_e/dept/01-005/Humminbird_Fishfinders.htm www.drydock516.com
jeb Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 You are wise to be careful about where you buy, especially something major like this. So check out the seller as much as you can, but there are good deals to be had on electronics out there. I paid about $1100 delivered for a 997C SI at the end of last year when they were closing them out to make room for the 998. Since there were hardly any changes, I decided to jump on the great deal. But that was through Johnson Outdoors (HB's parent company) factory store in Racine, Wi. So not much to worry about there. And there is some value to buying from a place like Cabelas. They have a VERY liberal return/exchange policy that not many small online places can match. Hard to put a dollar value on it, though. John B 08 Skeeter SL210, 225F Yamaha

Make sure who you are buying from when it comes to internet buying.. Call them first, biggest mistake I see is that some of these do not come with a transducer... And these guys come with a 200.00 price tag.. So make sure it is a full package before you order.. Besides that, I ordered my last graphs a pair of 997 off of the internet, everything went fine just fine.. Did call the company and talk to a live person to make sure what was in the unit.. Alot of times for us Pro Staff guys it is cheaper to buy from a third party company plus we get them a whole lot faster!! Good Luck and Enjoy your new unit!!! Capt. Don Capt. skeeter Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 Found that the Humminbird outlet store is selling 997c's for $1499.00 including dual beam, side imaging transducers. 998Csi combo with transducer for $1735.95. I heard there are pre-loaded maps on the 998 and an Ethernet connection that you won't get on the 997 and the 997 is being superseded by the 998 but some $$ savings may be worth it to you depending on what you are wanting. http://humminbird.factoryoutletstore.com/cat/1376/Humminbird-900-Series-Fishing-Systems.html They also offer extended warranties and free shipping on current orders.
CaptainJoe Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 Find the lowest price you can find on the Internet, but make sure that the entity has a store front. If they have a store front, print off the price and the store front's information and take it to Bass Pro Shops and they will match the price.
