Fly_Guy Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 check craigslist daily - that'll be your best bet. Or a shelter.
Members Ann Posted May 4, 2010 Members Posted May 4, 2010 Sounds like what you are looking for may be of the Great Pyreenes breed. They are great dogs. They have the look you want with the temperment you need.
Wheatenheimer Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 I have a 110 pound Golden Retriever that on most days I would gladly "re-home" him, but I'm pretty sure that my girlfriend would "re-home" me if I carried this out. Great Pyrenees are great dogs, so are Newfies (Newfoundlands) and Bernese Mountain Dogs. All just big bundles of love! Good luck finding your new family member.
Members MUFlyTiger Posted May 5, 2010 Members Posted May 5, 2010 I knew a Bull Mastif once that looked horribly mean, and barked and snarled.. Best, most gentle "huge" dog Ive ever known. +1 to Craigslist or shelters. Im sure there are a lot of people out there who turned in their big dog because they couldnt afford to feed it.
Members toadfrog Posted May 5, 2010 Author Members Posted May 5, 2010 I want a mastiff mine died at 14yrs old. Kid in a car hit him on purpose. The dog got even ,it totaled the car.He weighed 210 lbs. He was sole protector of my 3yr old daughter.Noth'in or noone came close to her without his permission. It was really wierd he sat within three feet of her from the time she was born on. Thanks for the input Ya'all A man stands no taller than when he reaches down to help a child.
Members bowfin47 Posted May 21, 2010 Members Posted May 21, 2010 I hope that the kid wasn't wearing his seatbelt!
Members Zac Seale Posted May 22, 2010 Members Posted May 22, 2010 German Shepherds are great as well, I've had them my whole life and currently have a pure black 2 yr old. Once the know a home they will protect it and their owners, but very gentle with us. He falls asleep with my wife on the couch almost every night, but if someone goes walking through our yard they he hurries them along quite well.
shockley32 Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 My parents have two pureblood English Mastiff males. They are pretty young dogs, year or so, pretty well behaved. They both will be very large. They are interested in finding a good home for them. If interested give me a call 417-345-1258. Brad Have your visited Limitville lately?
Gavin Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 I have a 145lb mutt....Think he's a rotty great dane that we got from a dog rescue operation in East St. Louis. He's a wonderful dog, in spite of his origins. Check out your local pet rescue organizations. I'm sure they have some big dogs that need a home. Cheers.
