trizkid Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 I have not read a post about cardiac hill or any other trout fishing on the meramec river in a long time...whats the deal?.....does nobody fish it anymore....is the fishing that poor? TrIzzout
3wt Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 I'm thinking about going and finding out for myself. There used to be a couple guys that were always down there and could chime in, but I haven't seen them post in a while. I guess it's a short enough drive for a gamble.
Gavin Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 Water is a bit high for a walk & wade down there, Id canoe it at this level, but I'd wait till it drops below 500cfs before I'd head down to wade fish...250cfs is even better. Cheers.

I have to admit I've sort of quit going to the Red Ribbon Area/Maramec Spring Park. The red ribbon area isn't bad at all, but the Current isn't that much further, and I like it a lot better. It's running 848 CFS at Steelville. It'd be fishable in the park, and there would be a few places you could wade just below in the river down to Dry Fork (aka the piles), but it's probably not worth your while until it drops. I'm sure Cardiac is too high to wade with Dry Fork coming in above it. If you do go, I'd have plenty of eggs, San Juans, and Woollies. They work pretty well there when the water's up.

The red ribbon area isn't bad at all, but the Current isn't that much further, and I like it a lot better. I like the current much better too, but I can make it a day trip a lot easier than the current. And some variety is nice once in a while.

I see what you mean there. A day trip for me on the Current means getting up at 3 A.M if I want to hit the prime early morning fishing, and getting back at about 11:30 P.M after I've fished the evening rise. It's worth it, and I do it often, but it does kinda wear on me when I do it a couple weekends in a row.
Members jdixon Posted May 8, 2010 Members Posted May 8, 2010 Ozark Trout Fisher that sounds alot like my trips to the current, up at 3am home at midnite. It is worth it but it does wear you down and make for a short weekend.

I used to make a day trip out of it from Kansas City ..... it's a 24 hour trip if you fish from sunrise to sunset (includes 10 hours of driving). PC Cheers. PC
