polock Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 started off at the rock... one more day to add on to why i hate big lake fishing, did lousy.. bout 10 the wind was picking up so we checked the generation schedule and saw WHAT!!!! NO GENERATION.. Hooray for Iphones!... took out of tablerock, dropped in to taney. hit the trophy water and got 4-5 on white jigs but they just weren't taking em, most were just following. went down to below fall creek and powerbaited for an hour or so, picked up a few. The bite was slow. then I tied on a sculpin colored 1/8th jig and oh my gosh, it was like having fish food at the hatchery. every cast got a strike and picked up several more good sized bows. a few around 16-17" with great color. it was olive and sculpin today for us. when we got home I took the yak out on the finley. 3-4 15" largemouths of flukes. had a small mouth take and run with a fluke and snapped new 8lb line like it was nothing. then Not sure what I hooked, but something got a hold of my fluke, and snapped my 5' micro light i use in the kayak. almost got it in site, and the one eye I did have still attached to my handle didn't give enough support to the line and it broke. darn, 2 super nice fish that would have made good pics for sure. so got to paddle back to the jeep during the prime time of the evening. No hits on topwater at all today, was kind of dissapointed, got one heck of a sunburn for my stubberness against sunblock.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted May 7, 2010 Root Admin Posted May 7, 2010 Bite was slow for us yesterday too. But we didn't venture far from the resort area. When there's a generation change like this -- running water for eons and then they shut it down -- the trout seem to go into a state of shock for a day or so. Some don't but most do- for me anyhow. MDC stocked through here yesterday. Rainbows seems to be a little smaller than average but not dinks. They were all over the surface last evening.
Members ulua Posted May 7, 2010 Members Posted May 7, 2010 Hit the rebar yesterday morning with the water off. Had 39 to hand before the generation began at noon. Mostly on gray scuds and some on chamois san juan. Went above #2 and got a 19" rainbow that was fat. Went below #2 and got 3 more. Went up to #1 and could only get 1. Went up to the cable and switched to a jig on a ultra light and got one. Decided to pack it up and leave. Used a #16 bead head tan scud for the outlets. Switched to gray #20 but didn't get any better. Had a fun time. No browns.
Members Cad Posted May 7, 2010 Members Posted May 7, 2010 I also hit Rebar yesterday morning caught a few on a scud. Switched to black #14 bead head woolie bugger and caught 15-20 dead drifting it (one small brown). Went up to #1 and really did well on pretty much anything I threw; bugger, midge, SJ worm, scud, even a couple streamers. Had one bow that would have pushed 21-22 inches (didn't have camera on me), nice football shaped bow. Had plans in Springfield or I would have been there until generation started, took out of there at 10:00 with over 50+ fish to hand. Cad
